pretty new to these forums, but have been using sketchup pretty regularly for the last few years. I am in the videogame/film/tv industry and have found sketchup to be heavily used in the design process. It's a similar industry to architecture, considering the needs for conceptual, photoreal designs. I have been waiting for sketchup to take the next step in terms of modelling and am hopeful that 7 will address some of the issues. I hope Google understands the widespread use of Sketchup in diverse industries. If in the next update there is little to address the need for better modelling, and maybe even more extensive lighting options (like the light up plugin) i think i'll have to bite the bullet and learn modo...ouch. I hope not because i love sketchup and am heavily invested in it. just my two cents. i love this board by the way, have learned an amazing amount and am constantly inpressed with the quality of the work displayed!

Aaanyway, don't get confused by those woodworkers down at the special forums - they are mostly the ones that are here (at the Newbie section) as well to help out "hopeless" new members. Thanks for replying so quick solo Yeah iam kinda new to the whole rendering,texturing process so i thought i would give it a shot.Plus i think it would be cool to have my own texture library that i can edit,use and share.I going through all the TUTs right now for it,I am hoping i can share and show off some new textures next week or so. Basically you should use a vector export format like DWG or PDF. You won't get textures or shadows, though. The basic rules: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9281 For raster exports it is different. Pixels do not have a scale. You can either print the images directly to paper or PDF using a PDF printer (still using a standard view, with Parallel Projection on), or do something in this line: Draw an empty rectangle around your model with dimensions you know. export the plan view with parallel projection to an image. open the image in photoshop trim away everything outside your "frame". Photoshop can do this automatically if you have an uniform background. now you can resize the image to the dimensions the frame should have, with or without resampling. if you need to you can now crop away the frame. Photoshop remembers your DPI setting so the image should remain at the correct scale. when printing from any application, remember to turn off all page scaling in the application or your print driver. For instance, Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat default to fitting the page to available printing area, which produces extra margins and a slightly downsized image Anssi

Hi, While the gentlemen above are correct how lines can easily be hidden, you may rather be interested in softening those edges instead, if they are on a terrain. To do this, right click on the terrain component and select soften edges. A dialogue will pop up where you cn check "soften coplanar edges" and use the slider to soften what you want. You can also soften individual edges (in edit mode) using the Ctrl+Erases tool. Softening a terrain would probably give you better visual results than only hiding edges because by hiding them the surface will stilll ermain "broken".

I will have a look at it. Thanks for the tip. The problem is at the office everyone has their own set and layout for the toolbars so if one person needs to update some SU images then we end up with deviating images. I'll add a request for custom aspect ratio.
