@john2 said: I recently upgraded my laptop ram to 8 GB . How can I make V-ray use more RAM, so as to boost the performance? I am using Windows 8.1 (64 bit) and Sketchup 2015 (64bit) It's already using the full available RAM as you're using the 64bit version. So if you want to use more RAM the only way would be to upgrade to even more RAM. However, there is something that you should be aware of... if you want to boost performance you don't need more RAM but better CPU and GPU. RAM is just there so you can open the model and work with it. If you have enough RAM for your model it will work. If you don't have RAM enough it will freeze. It's the GPU and CPU that determine your performance Boost... Having a laptop means you probably can't improve on those two and that's why I ditched my laptop in favour of a Big Tower Computer... It's a bit harder to take it to construction site, but I can do what I want with it at the office! EDIT: There's another topic about this here: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15%26amp;t=63958

@dreampsi said: if you can point me out to some clear cut modeling tuts that would be good do you refer to sub-division tutorials? or to essential sketchup tutorials? btw did you checked all of the other topics in this forum section? i suspect you didn't or maybe you should pay more attention, because probably you could have avoided the most of the errors in your mesh. also make sure check sub-d documentation on the website (good and growing) and maybe take a look to a few of the example models shared here on the sub-d forum for general sketchup tutorial i don't know.. i learned it some times ago and i'm not sure wich one is the best up-to-date, but probably the official sketchup channel is a good place to start. also try to search sketchucation for "the doh tread" that's essential.

I might be wrong, but I believe you cannot use a linear surface for caustics. Caustics are a concentration of light due to a curved (lens) effect. Robert

Thanks Rich. Will the browser eventually have subd mode (showing the subd basic divisions)? I thought you posted that before. BTW I notice the viewer does not give access to controls once it is full screen or is that just my setup?

@Rich-O-Brien LOL I plan to unwrap separate meshes at mid poly stage and keep them consistent with the "tile trick" then I'll do the final SubD

You can set it to 0, and V-Ray will use as much ram as is available. Or you can cap it at something like 10,000mb if you want it to not eat all your ram. As a side note, for slightly faster renders you can also turn off "Low Thread Priority" in your Global switches. This will throw everything your computers got (CPU) at the rendering, but you wont be able to do much else with the machine while its rendering like that.

Well, since it seems that nobody is able to give me advise.. so i wasted several hours and watched 4 tutorials (until if found one that gave me some clues..) to find a solution. The "trick" (just in case someone want to know) is to lower the color saturation of the parallel reflection until that effect dissapear. At least thats the only thing i could find to fix it. In the end, i dont get the reflections i would want in some areas (i really dont get vray lol, why is evrything so hard.. xD) but i prefer that instead seeing white dots without reason or "painted" areas with white for no reason.

Have you tried with a vray double sided material? Scene Materials > Create Material > Two Sided Here you can apply a fully different pre-existent material (not just a diffuse map, but with full control) for each different side. Hope it helps. RL.
