As for the how to - just go to your options, output, get view aspect, click the L to lock it, then type in 4500 in the width box, with your aspect locked, the height will auto adjust. Also, with the aspect locked, your render will match your SU viewport exactly.

I have already cut the animation down into sections to see if it would handle it better. Each section is about 12 seconds with a 60 frame rate.
Could it be my scene just has too many elements? Would i perhaps be better using a different programme like 3DSMax?

Thank you Andy for the info, I look in to that right now. Hi Chon, thank you for the info, I am familiar with the video but render in a cloud day is very dificult since the sky is almost white and there is sun but without power, at least alsways is like that here in Seattle.

thanks again both for the info.

I would turn up the IOR on the reflection and refraction layer for the wine glasses to 1.8. I would also add a little color to the glass by making the refraction color a very light gray. Then set the IOR for glass on the cabinet to something lower like 1.2.

he says he checked for duplicate faces, but I agree with you - it looks completely like z-fighting. Could be that some component got copied twice - it's happened to me before...

You can confirm by altering your viewpoint and see if the pattern changes. With z-fighting it does - as it's view dependent.

I'm surprised 3ds worked better than the collada format (*.dae), I thought that was supposed to be the end all be all format these days.

Collada just doesn't seem to be that well supported. It seems like it breaks regularly with Blender updates.

@pugs1983 - I'm fine with the blender interface as it is v2.5 and higher. It's the rotate, zoom, pan that's been "fixed" from earlier versions that makes it easy to use.

Can't see your image. Seems to be linked to your mailbox. When you post you can upload images to the forum, see the "Upload attachment" tab under the textbox.

As for whatever error it is, when it's an activation issue you need to contact ChaosGroup Support. They can help you out with that.

Displacement kills CPU, use it sparingly. Also, try to get away with using lower subdivs and and a higher edge length. On high res renders you can sometimes get away with an edge of 20+ pixels. Try it out.

Thanks for good advice but in this situation i used edge length 1,0 without 'use global' option to make it real, full of details. Finally for the high resolution render i made it with fur plugin. it looks better i think:)

There is documentation out there if you look through the net. Between all the videos on the Chaos YouTube page, the manuals that exist for the plug-in, and other V-Ray for Max sites, you can get a good handle on this plug-in. I have to admit it took me a good year before I was comfortable with it. So plan on putting some serious time into it. But once you know V-Ray, you can use that if you move on to MAX or Blender, so it pays off. I would recommend it highly.

Thanx a lot, itΒ΄s first time I see the answer !!

To be more precise, and for those who work in other units than inches like in Europa, let's take an example :

Wood parquet floor in SU : go and check texture size by clicking on Edit in SU Materials.
I work in cm, so it tells me : 304.8 cm x 121.9 cm.

You convert in inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm), or for lazy bums, you go and change units in Model info / units.

So it turns that texture size is 120" x 48".
Take the smaller value, and inverse : 1/48 = 0.02

    Fill in Repeat on 3 axis (even though this a 2D image) : X 0.02, Y 0.02 Z 0.02
    And thatΒ΄s it !

Only way around IMO: Copy - paste Normaly, then on the Materials menu, right click on the materials you need fixed and select Import Material. This will replace the model materials with the ones in your Library. Thanks

    oh hi,

if you scroll up and find the image with red circles and numbers that i posted, then i found what number 2 is - it's apparently called a 'terminator problem' and a description of it could be found for example in this blender change-log (with images). for those interested, the more technical view is in this PDF, which is also cited in that blender article. the most detailed description i could find was in the Thea forums in this thread (with images).

so, since sketchup doesn't have Subdivision modifiers (only SDS plugins, which however are a) paid and b) create solid hi-poly geometry), this is apparently an issue of shader coding and the solution lies on the shoulders of the developers...

    ping, dkendig? πŸ˜„

EDIT: and another technical PDF with the description of the problem (and apparently some solution, too)

it's a bug. Happens to everyone. 😞 The only solution currently is to open the files with vray disabled in SU and do your copy and pasting then.
