There's quite a number of things that could be the problem. Since you say the image came out dark, my guess would be that the irrmap file you have and the view you are trying to render don't match. Try saving your irradiance map from the scene you are trying to render. If you are loading from another machine or from another scene, you may have issues using a saved map.

When you use high quality settings for IM (subdivisions and such) you're starting to loose detail, geometry is "floating". Lower the settings, or, use detail enhancement, or, my favorite one, use AO. Cheers!

There is a "thea_path.txt" file in: "C:\Program Files\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins\TheaExporter_files\thea_path.txt" This file has to be deleted. When you start SU again you will be asked to select thea.exe from Thea's folder. On Win7 the "thea_path.txt" might be located in: "C:\Users<user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins\TheaExporter_files\thea_path.txt" Anyway, using installer is the recommended solution.

You can use this as a starting point. Just need to make it metal and not plastic Micro_Perforated_Blinds.zip

And if you run on 64bit, you will get much more speed. Make a test and come with the results ! The Intel Embree kernel is faster than all of them and runs only on the CPU. It renders the Imperial Crown in about 20 secs. Give any modern CPU based renderer a four socket workstation (four independent xeon CPUs, 40 physical cores) , that was used in my understanding in said Embree demo, and you will get a pretty fast renderer. Anyhow Embree is a nice demonstration about how CPU (=intel) based renderer can compete against GPU (=nividia) And it was not 20 sec, if you where referring the intel video, "a prefect image takes about a minute to compute". No doubt Embree is a impressive collection of ray tracing kernels. The original Austrian Imperial Crown by Martin Lubich http://www.loramel.net/showroom/3d/

Hi Tito and all, Wow, I've been exploring a lot of other methods and engines including three.js but your solution with CopperLicht is by far the best I've come across for what I want to do and for what IT CAN DO! Amazing! I too want to use Sketchup generated scenes and have tried and tested CopperCube with its CopperLicht JS engine and couldn't believe how straight foward, quick and easy it is to get it all up and running in the browser! Thanks for the headsup and I'll probably be posting as I progress...

I made a quick test of Shaderlight 2.0 and Maxwell for SU along with a few other apps a while ago: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=41848 I found a few issues with Shaderlight and the results were not as realistic but it is faster than Maxwell.

If you set the empty SKP's Model Info > Units to meters, with say 3dp and no units displayed you can input all of you dimensions as if they are centimeters [or even millimeters provided you are consistent] - thus you'll avoid the issues around the inability to make tiny facets on some meshing operations. Once you are done... IF you must make it back into the 'real' size then draw a temporary line 1 'unit' long [actually it's 1m long, but from your viewpoint it's 1cm !]; now reset your Model Info > Units as desired; now in the Model run the Tapemeasure tool and click on the two ends of the temporary line and immediately type in 1cm, when prompted say 'Yes' to scale the entire model... everything in the SKP is now the right sizes in cm - and the now very tiny facets can exist, although their creation was not possible without the 'units/scaling' trick earlier... PS: You can use the Scale tool as Gaieus suggests BUT then any groups or components will be scaled BUT their original size is unchanged [unless you do further work] - unlike with the Tapemeasure re-scale trick...

Hi Guys, After reading the suggestions and tried different ways I still cannot figure out how to solve this thedious problem. Here you can find the "Ruby console" output. Closing UI Starting Export Error: #<NameError: uninitialized constant LumenRT2015::VueExportGUI::Main> e:/program files/e-on software/lumenrt 2015/lumenrt/export/skp/ruby/lumenrt_ui.rbs:477:in showUI' e:/program files/e-on software/lumenrt 2015/lumenrt/export/skp/ruby/lumenrt_menu.rbs:139:in lumenRT_exportModel' e:/program files/e-on software/lumenrt 2015/lumenrt/export/skp/ruby/lumenrt_menu.rbs:535:in block in <module:LumenRT2015>' SketchUp:1:in call' All the best. Go to the videos link that is pinned at the top of these forums, there is a video on pool water and caustics. This will answer all of your questions. I really cannot stress enough, if you watch all of these vids, about 2 hours worth, you will really have a deep understanding of this plug-in.

Quick word of warning. If you decide that LumenRT isn't for you, don't do what I did and try and uninstall it using the Windows Control Panel. It completely screwed half of the programme drivers on my PC and despite reverting to a previous restore point I've now got to reinstall half the programmes on my computer.

The "Trial" version should give you all the features of the full pro version (which includes animation) but it expires after 14 days, so just register on shaderlight.com and they will send you an activation key which unlocks the pro version. Once your trial is up Shaderlight will revert to the free version which as iichiversii says does not allow you to use the animation feature.

I don' think there's any way directly but you should be able to hack something together. This is the first thing I'd try. In 3ds max get the xyz coordinates of both the camera and the target and draw a line from one point to the other. Then export that line as 3ds or dae and import it into SU. Then you should be able to use the Position Camera tool selecting first the camera location end of the line and then the camera target end of the line. Just make sure your lens size (35mm, 55mm, etc.) matches the 3ds max camera as well. -Brodie

You can export geometry from SketchUp. OBJ and 3DS formats seem to be the preferred. I am sure there are plenty of programs that can do baking. V-Ray in SketchUp is not one of them though.
