BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@box said: I may be wrong, it often happens, but I think you'll also need to group the dimension with the component or it won't stay with it if you move it. With Dave's methode, placing the dimension outside the component's context but inside a gluing component, the dimension sticks onto the parent component. It will move along with that single component instance but there will not be any nested components involved. Example, see attached model. dimension component gluing to component

You could write a short script to iterate all of the components in a model [or perhaps load them in turn from a folder, into an empty SKP] and then export their thumbnails into a specified folder, naming them after the component definition...

@glitchdesign said: Hi, I found this thread because i have the QL helper issue too. I've tried the ql manage steps listed above. I can't say for sure if .skp is the only thing that makes ql go nuts, but there's no doubt that it is a trigger. I've never come across anything like the quicklook generator posted above, will it help specifically with this problem, or is it more just for being able to view files before opening them? Where should i put the .qlgenerator file? I'm afraid i'm not too experienced with this stuff... So far as I know, nobody ever conclusively proved the cause of this problem, so there is no guarantee of what will work. My theory was that it could be due to SketchUp not registering the .skp extension correctly with Mac OS X, which would cause Finder's preview to scan the file trying to decide how to display it and could clog up the quick look cache. I am sure that SU 8 did not register .skp, but I haven't checked on 2013. Unzip the qlgenerator into ~/Library/QuickLook and the ruby into your plugins folder (the path varies depending on SU version). You may have to run "qlmanage -r" from a console window before the quick look daemon will pick up the new generator. You also have to save a file once before you will get a preview image instead of the sketchup logo.

Thanks, TIG. I was curious if it was Dibac or BuildEdge. I do already have your SectionCutFace plugin and use it quite frequently. Thank you for your great work and thank you for helping me resolve this. -Mike

Thanks for the tips, I know about the spere or even just a square/oblong face for 'painting' a background on it is difficult for distance/scale issues as I want some renders at different ranges. The watermark tip is something I did not have a clue about but it just does not get there having a strange appearance but then I could be in error with scaling during import. I will have to try some different models for comparison. Thanks for your suggestions, another day with new lessons.

@unknownuser said: Looking great Aaron. Just a couple thoughts 1.it would be great to be able to insert multi-sash windows as well. 2.adjustable trim configurations 3.adjustable stile and rails. Also, when you are forming floors and walls and roof lines are they automatically set into separate groups? This would be great for layer control. Great work! Hi Nick, Thanks for the input! To address your questions directly: We do plan on getting different window types in the future. This first release we added the VERY simple tool of adding what we call dividers. These can be used to represent sashes, mullions.... whatever! We do allow the trim to be adjusted for width, at this point. I would love to see the kinds of controls you would be interested in. Please let me know what you think would be useful. Again, in the future releases we want to add this, please send me your thoughts on inputting these items. Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully I can get additional input and amp doors and windows way-up in the next release! Thanks! Aaron

Yep, just with donuts, and same amount of segments, then it is useless . I tried curviloft with a larger model and it works ok . [image: ksgl_1.jpg] [image: Oatp_2.jpg]

@barkest said: Does anyone have any experience/knowledge/notes/links on how to set up su on a mac network? The Mac version of a SUP network license is self aware and doesn't reference to a license file in a shared folder e.g. on a central server location like the Windows network license. Launching SUP f. OSX automatically looks for other SUP lics. in the network that are using the same license and counts down the number of lics. until the limit is reached. The way that SUP f. OSX shares a license between computers is that one of the machines will launch a daemon which serves as a broadcasting server for that license. When another copy of SUP is launched it looks for the daemon and failing that will launch a daemon of its own. [image: SU_1289321_OSX_lic_2-en.jpg] hth, Norbert

Thanks guys, @seasdes - that's what I do too but want to end up with layer I set up in SU @TIG - that's what it's being used for, underlaying [Xref] Maybe exporting in 3D would be better even if consultants are viewing it in 2D.

It's under the Edit tab in Styles, now. Click on the blue cube icon and you'll find the needed controls. That change took place with SU8. [image: GQZU_Capture.PNG]

To follow on from Dave and your orientation to the red question, it sort of does do that but there is slightly more to it. SU has a global orientation set at the origin, meaning it sees things with the origin point at the bottom left of the screen. Therefore text generally follows that overall concept, it will attempt to orientate to the bottom left corner of the face you place it on. As you can see below, the text follows that orientation even on a sphere, as it is following the actual facets of the sphere. So as an example, if you try to place text on a chair leg, if it is standing up the text will natural orient across it, but if it is lying down it will follow the length. @wo3dan said: (*) create a 'Face Me' component with a circular face. Wrap this çomponent in a new 'Face Me' component with its blue perpendicular to the inside blue. The disk will face the camera all the time... Thanks, this is a better solution. Small sphere is difficult to move and placed in the center. But, math point should not be zoomed, always has the same setpoint. Maybe in future versions to add options for using in math.

Hi Nicmask, I've also had this problem. I don't remember if trashing my plist helped or not. I think in the end, I had to uninstall and reinstall SU.
