Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

I moved my tool pallettes to the top bar to alleviate the problem lol only to find the same problem exists. This should be fixed immediately. Unless they cannot, its also a pain when sketchup crashes. When sketchup relaunches it takes its time to open the previous file without toolbars argghghhhhghghghghgghhhhhhh the horror.

Sorry I don't use it (but understand it works OK) but there are videos at the site. Try with a simple smaller terrain section. Also Valiarchitects has Instant Terrain that I have used. The point of Instant Terrain is to provide an even and regular terrain geometry from your model, because sometimes that is needed to have InstantRoad work. Try with a portion of your work (in a test file). You can get help by contacting Valiarchitects (Chuck) if you make a try and refine your questions.

I think "default layer geometry" does all that needs to be done. Then all geometry is on Layer0 where it belongs, and you can assign components, including nested groups or components to whatever layer is required.

I did something similar, how about using the windows back-up files, save what you have to a thumb drive or disc, then return the documents to a previous saved backup

No, I was talking about something different than the clipping bug. There are steps to take to keep the clipping bug at bay. Search the forum for the clipping bug.

The problem comes from my hard disk(I believe) as it went out of power(loose connecter perhaps) and then when I made it to work back this problem occurred with both these files(The folder they are in was open when the hard disk stopped working). The .skb gives the same error ! The weird thing is that I can see the preview of the large one but it won't open.

@wo3dan said: With your suggestion: Scene A with section plane 1 active Scene B with section plane 1 still active, different location though.. Thanks Gerrit, To split hairs.....I envision section plane 1 uses same position (location) for "Scenes A&B"...only camera "B" is 180° to Camera "A".(think turntable) @wo3dan said: The animation from A to B (and back) shows the transition of the section cut running from A to B (and back) (scene transitions enabled and unequal to zero) The only minor difference is that things are much simpler now without the need of an extra section plane. I envision a "sweeping" 180° Turn/transition from "A" to "B" using the same plane.......yes...unlike the current transition from one plane to another....though maybe the sweeping transition would be more........??...sexy? Again...thanks for you input/thought's. Best, Charlie

When You select print there is a section that allows you to select what scenes to print. However you can only do a range like 2 thu 6 etc.

I go back and forth between AutoCAD and SketchUp all the time with no problems. Some suggestions: The cleaner your AutoCAD file the better it will open in SketchUp. I keep a AutoCAD file called To SketchUp that has essentially nothing in it (no blocks, no linetypes, meta data, etc.). I copy my geometry into that file then use Purge (extensively)and Overkill to get the file ready for SketchUp. SketchUp doesn't have arcs or circles so any line that intersects a circle will give you trouble. On the SketchUp side open the Entity Info panel and increase the chord count of the arcs to give you smoother lines. On the AutoCAD side I always extend any lines that intersect arcs several inches beyond the arc so I can trim them back in SketchUp. I hope something here helps.

Wow, thanks Philip! I learned a lot from your example. First, component wrapping comes BEFORE axis changing. Next I really didn't understand how to propagate a variable through nested components. The trick is parent! I know what the ! means, but I was having trouble figuring out how to make a reference within the nested components that made sense. I probably could have constructed something, but your solution is much more streamlined (and intuitive). Finally, I had not thought about using a logical sequence to drive the values of the variables. In hindsight, the solution is pretty straightforward, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out. All in all, pretty clever! Thanks, again, for your extremely helpful post. I'm off and fixing a number of other DCs that I made that have similar issues. Frank.

Switch to parallel projection view (I assigned F5 key to switch between parallel and perspective view). This enables zooming in very close any point, line, plane. Hope it helps.

Thank you very much Ken for your reply. Yes, I think Photobucket had some issues lately and it won't appear every time. (Might be that some of their servers are overloaded temporary.) The maximum attachment size for the the forums at the moment is 2MB. I think it should be large enough for most of the images.

I'm interested. My child (12 yrs old) is a big Maker Faire fan so we tend to go every year. Last year I felt the fair was a bit inundated with 3D printers - all great but all pretty much the same. Maybe the rage for those things will have passed a bit by now.

@fredo6 said: Edson, When you get a crash, could you send the bug report to Trimble, specifying this is about BezierSpline. So far, I don't have enough elements to figure out in which area it can be. Since SU8 and SU13 use the same version of Ruby, it must be something more subtle. Thanks Fredo I have already done it.

Apologies for the overlapping tiles. After experimenting with the various approaches, it appears to me that trimming instances of tiles components with the Solid Tools Trim tool may be the quickest method overall. My thinking has evolved over this thread and I now see the value of having solid tiles. For one, they look much better, and they save space. Now that I know the Trim tool makes trimmed components unique, saving what I thought was an extra step,I find it relatively easy to step through and trim each tile. Zorro2 is a great tool and will very quickly trim groups of tile components, making each one unique as it does so, but it leaves the trimmed edges without a face. This is fine in many cases, but when you want a face, it takes time to edit each component to replace it. That said, there's a place for each method.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, i can not use DOM parser to do xml parsing. [edit] I have used the libxml and its performance is good enough for me. I setup the old version libxml and copy the ruby files, dll to plugin folder of sketchup, it works for me.

Yes, I've done several more, also working on some diners along Route 66. But right now I'm concentrating on several other projects, including a couple of very unusual vehicles and a very unusual aircraft. Started on diners awhile back uo learn SU. Played with glass block entarnce, booths..... Gave up after awhile. Looking forward to your work.
