BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

If you just want to create guides, don't touch ctrl. When you select the tape tool it has a small dotted line and a + sign as part of the cursor,--+, this means it will create a guide line. If you hit CTRL this goes away and it can be used to resize. CTRL toggles between the two states.

Cheers Jeff, I know about the checkbox in preferences and checked it a long time ago. However sketch up is the only application that still exhibits this behaviour. Its like its immune from it. Any other ideas?

@cjryan said: I've had great results with my ASUS Republic of Gamers G750JH-DB71 17.3" Notebook , it's heavy, and the power block is the size of a brick. But it rocks SU. I'm not that familiar with "Lumion", but I also use it for renders, and I'm a heavy PhotoShop user. It handles everything I throw at it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/983611-REG/asus_g750jh_db71_i7_4700hq_24gb_1tb_128ssd_x2_windows_8_64_17_3.html For what it's worth... Chris This laptop is def on my wish list, Ive had the G74sx for the last 2 years and its done a great job.

Could you isolate the wall with the rectangle and post it as a SketchUp file so we can see exactly what's going on?

Thank You for your help. Registry entries seem to be a problem. Generally things work nearly perfectly now. Nearly, because after cleaning up registry some toolbars refuse to work. I will install non-working plugins once again. But performance boost is undeniable. Thanks again.

there's also a Align&Distribute plugin which will help you do this (get even spacing in between objects) if different size components are being used.. it's probably a bit overboard for your current scenario as i understand it. http://sdmitch.blogspot.fr video: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bw8zdmaKDWIfdGJYbVBabEcxdlE/edit

I would try the following: Export out at 2560x1440 (twice the resolution of 1280x720) 30 fps (I know everyone says anything over 24 is overkill, but I get better results at 30 YMMV) antialias on png image sequence. (no compression and relatively small file sizes) Open the image sequence in Quicktime 7 Pro and export out at high quality, H.264, 30fps, 1280x720HD. Exporting at twice the resolution and using Quicktime to scale it down will give you much crisper linework. If you are using a style without edges, then you can probably get by with just 1280x720. I would use a scratch disk as we are talking 10's of gig of raw images. MAKE SURE you save the images into a new folder (I call mine source images) or you will end up with thousands of images in a folder or the desktop (yikes!) Also, try to minimize big camera moves with lots of side to side head movement as this will cause jaggies. Nice, smooth choreography with gentle pans will give you smoother and cleaner final output.

Fredo / Jeff, that looks like it should turn out!!!!! I wish I knew how to use curviloft to its fullest; Fredo I can't recall seeing a 'how to' document like you have for your other tools....? This little excessive has certainly opened up some possibilities for different outcomes. Thanks so much to all of you, really appreciate your guidance.

Thanks. Pushing to the side did not work because I'm running two monitors and the toolbar just when to the other monitor. Switched it off and the toolbars locked to the side. Switched it back on and they held. Thanks again

I think you were meaning that you couldn't get the tools to lay up on the side on the MAC, like the traditional two columns of basic tools: Draw, Move, Measure, etc. on PC I re-installed Sketchup now now and was also confused about my toolbars. found them again under >View >Tool Palettes >large tool set. it has most the common ones leaving space on the top row for 'extra' icons. hope this helps, if it's what you were getting at.
