Wow. Works flawlessly. Tested on different scenarios with different hierarchy and nested objects. Also - as expected - everything is 'taggable' in Layout.
Thank You very much.

Best option is to for this to work on selected entities, with all nested components/groups inside this selection.
I will check out Component Descriptor - and yes - this seems to be close to what I need.
Only parameter that is visible to normal user and allows for labeling in Layout is the Instance parameter. It is also common for groups and components (at least the name "Instance" is the same). Every other parameter like advanced ones or user created are component only parameters and I need to label groups also. Don't want to model everything with components only.
Basically - if I have antyhing that I want to label by name - I will write the name in component Definition parameter. Groups don't have names, and that's fine.
I just need a tool to automatically put the Material Name in the instance parameter of each component and group. Original contents of Instance parameter can be deleted / substituted with Material Name.
Hope this clarifies.
Dear All,
I'm looking for a person who can write a custom script for cash.
I'm having problems to find certain people doing those things online.
I need a script that takes all groups and components within a model or a selection (with all nested items), reads the material name given to that group/component and writes this name into a parameter that can be accessed with LayOut Auto-text feature. In worst case this can be written to the Instance parameter of each entity.
Please - write me a quotation for such service.
Thank You
Dear Everyone. Could you help me with an advice or script/plugin?
I need to automatically pull name of the material name into Instance Parameter of every group and component (both have it).
I mean the name of the material that is used on top of each group/component (not specific materials for each face).
This would be useful as it would allow to AutoText label material name in LayOut (actually labeling Instance Parameter).
Workflow: after completing a model in Sketchup I execute a script / plugin that goes through all groups/components in model and writes Instance parameter with main material name. If I need an update, I update it manually by running the script again.
Outcome: I can use a material library with material names / symbols for objects - mainly furniture, then extract those names and put them into a parameter that can be labeled, and then label them with AutoText in LayOut.
Alternatively material name could be stored as a dynamic component text parameter, but this approach needs to first convert all groups to components first, and then adding this parameter to each of them.
Can You please help me (and many others) with that? Thank You in advance.
Hi everyone!
Trying to figure out a way to nudge time of day slider by one minute per arrow keystroke.
Right now when clicking minutes, or hours one can change time but you get to 59 minutes and the next keystroke resets to 0 min instead of changing the next hour and going to back 0 minutes.
When You click the slider itself (dotted selection line around the slider) it works as expected - keystrokes change time and hours change to next/previous, but at the rate of 5 minutes per keystroke and it's not easy to set exact time to begin with as the slider is very condensed and sensitive.
Is there a way to change the rate of time 'nudge' from 5 minutes to 1 minute per keystroke? (maybe some hidden parameter)
It would be a big time saver if some of You - Ruby masters - could come up with a plugin that:
a) allows for toggling between dates of spring/fall equinox (20/03 and 23/09 (in 2021)) coupled with setting summer time (for example Poland standard (winter time) is UTC+1, and DST (summer time) is UTC+2 - usefull for checking east and west facing windows for insolation with worse case scenario (preferably manual setting of dates of checking and time zones by user - save in settings;
b.) has ability to set hours range - say from 7 a.m to 5 p.m - preferably user input saved in settings;
c.) allows to toggle if arrow keys nudge the time slider within set range by one minute per keystroke (preferably a setting of no. of minutes per keystroke - saved at settings)
One of my sketchup uses is to check window insolation, and trust me, there is no plugin that checks that correctly in 'auto-mode'. I have to revert to manual check for more problematic cases. Constant changing dates, time zones, hours and minutes is not very 'time efficient', and is prone to error, as one can forget changing one paramter...
Hope this is an inspiration for a usefull plugin - even paid one for us all - insolation checkers .
Thank You for your help. Registry entries seem to be a problem.
Generally things work nearly perfectly now. Nearly, because after cleaning up registry some toolbars refuse to work. I will install non-working plugins once again. But performance boost is undeniable. Thanks again.
Hello
My System:
Core i7-930
GeForce GTX 480
12 GB RAM
Win7 x64 Ultimate
SU 8 Pro 8.0.16846
Sketchup 8 started to lag severly when switching between windows (in-program windows ie: material editor, component window, entity info, etc.) and when minimising/maximising program window. This started about a month ago. Been using Sketchup 8 on this machine from 3 years. No lags till about a month ago. Missed a definite moment LAGS started. While working - even on big models - framerate is fine, and everything is fast and smooth. When I open any window overlayed on workspace, window opens slowly. There is a slight (0,5s) lag when switching from workspace to any in-program window, and between in-program windows. When I minimise Sketchup, and maximise it, it redraws all windows slowly (lots of flicker and LAG). There have been problems with not been able to "save as" because dialogue window didn't show up (from time to time) - Ctrl+S works. The program starts-up slowly (got 5-6 plugins loeaded - FredoLib, .
I installed sketchup 7 (bare - without any plugins), and it starts fast, and windows are responsive and without lag.
I haven't used 2 monitors (pop-up windows show in the warking area, but are very slow to render/refresh).
I tried hardware acceleration (on/off), setting AA on/off, switching off Aero in Windows, Reinstalling sketchup to the same folder (plugins), different video card drivers - from 2012 to 2014 - all certified versions.
Here are links to videos showing what the problem looks like:
SU 7 - no problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8yxSLSNVjU%26amp;feature=youtu.be
SU 8 - big LAG problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt24qGas3-M%26amp;feature=youtu.be
Please help me...
P.S. I'm using Space navigator - since 3 years
P.S.2 - list of my loaded plugins:
P.S.3 - Switching off all plugins doesn't change antyhing. Slow start-up and LAGing persist...
Hi,
I've read all posts on estimate plugin and can't find any solution for my problem. Plugin installed as in readme file. Cost settig for materials, and cost estimation by material works fine.
However plugin seems to only see default Susan component despite i have 2 components in my scene.
I tried this plugin on another - more complicated model - and it seems that only components which have "by" attribute filled in are listed in Your plugin. I have a scene with hundreds of components, yet only 3 of them are listed - these are downloaded form 3d warehouse and have ie. "by Google" attribute set in them.
I guess it is a glitch, and it would be nice to get it fixed or some kind of workaround.
I use win7 pro sketchup 8.
Thanks for advice!
UPDATE: My problem is that only components having an author are listed in assign cost to component dialog window. If i save a component to a different file, then open the file, claim credit to it, the go back to original file and replace all old instances to a new "credited" one, it appears in assign cost to component dialog box. It this the way it's ment to be?
