+1 Better even if we were able to draw linestyles directly in Sketchup. A work around I use (not often) is to use the SU eraser tool with shift/control modifiers and a style with hidden lines turned on. The problem is that In LO those linestyles are only displayed in raster mode...

I also wish for something like this. I would go one further, and have the label tool be a general "attribute label" tool, which shows the value of any chosen component attribute. Any changes in the model will update the label of course!

@unknownuser said: I would not want this to change, at least for my workflow. There are times when I want to see offset dimensions, especially when detailing in 3d. All of my plans & sections are generated through the section tool which by default creates a 2d plane that LO follows very well. If LO automatically flattened, it would eliminate the possibility of offset dimensions (which are accurate to their 3d arrangement) as shown in that link. Had those three rectangular cubes been dimensioned via use of the section tool, they would be accurate to their 2d displacement. Just my 2 selfish cents. Not sure how a custom aligned view would be detrimental. It would be user controlled. Use it if you want or ignore it if you wish. Just looking for an option that would work as ortho views are traditionally used, i.e.flattened. Using a section plane work around is clever, but it is still a work around for a "Layout" flaw IMO. Sketchup team should address this and fix it in such a way that "Layout" will treat any ortho view (standard or custom) as a flattened view with the 2d dimensioning accuracy that is reasonably expected. If offset dimensions are required, then a 3d view with dimensions could be used. Not ready or willing to suspend drafting convention, when the fix is possibly simple. Even if it is not simple,it is a task worth under taking in order to have LO become a seriously considered 2d presentation/construction documentation solution. BTW, Sonder your work is impressive.

So far I haven't found any problems with precision. Sometimes the endpoints on the model don't appear to line up correctly with the dimensions (or is it the other way around?) but it's possible to fix that by slightly resizing the viewport. It would be nice if that wasn't needed.

I only go to the scrapbook once Dave to set the line tool parameters with the style sampling tool. After that it's a simple process of click & drag to create the curve tangent from the text box and then double click at the end point. No editing required; plus you can add extra points if you need to get around those bits of the drawing you need to keep clear. And for the OP the process would work just the same but just click (don't drag) so you get straight line segments.

If page numbering ever happens in LO you might be given the option to add prefixes to your page numbers. This is possible to do in InDesign and you could arrange page numbers exactly as you have described below - with a chapter number prefix for the type of drawing (1 for site plan, 2 for floor plan, 3 for section etc) and then the page numbers could be generated as you add pages. Its a really handy feature of indesign and would be really handy in LO - but as Gaieus said this has been asked for many times, just hoping that if its said enough the next release of LO might include this feature and save me having to manually do it!

Speed is what we need !! LO is a great tool - but it`s way to slow. More the once I had to work all night to get the job done - basically just waiting for LO to do what had to done. So - give us speed , don't rob our sleep!!

My first project is nearing the end and it will be time to package it. That's when I'll know what my excact wishes really are regarding presentation software intergration. PS: Thanks for the links TIG

You can print your model to scale and dimension it in native SketchUp (free also). Certainly it is easier and nicer in LayOut but it only comes with the Pro package and you cannot install it separately so if you pro trial has expired, the only way is to use what's available in the free version (or buy pro of course).

Not that I know of (and ruby isn't yet(?) implemented in layout) You could however assign it to a keystroke. (which IMO is even better than an icon shortcut)

Thanks Gaieus, Just thought it might be handy if there was a way to type it direct into a field in the View window so you dont have to set it in the prefs. I guess I just need to spend a bit of time getting my LO template sorted out with the most commonly used scales. Cheers
