Hi I upgraded to SU8 and LO3 the day it came out - and thanks for including many of our requests! Page numbering still missing though! Cheers

You can right click on the layer name, and choose "select entities". This will select all the objects on the layer, which would be close to what I think you want to do. After selecting all the objects you want to change, you can then change the settings using the shape style, or use the sample tool (default shortcut "s") and click on the shape you want to change the style settings to. (this is in SketchUp 7)

No, SU is written in c++ (or some other variant of c.) I think the ruby api works by calling the relevant c++ functions in SU when a script calls the equivalent ruby method. Id guess a ruby api for LO would work in similar fashion. To sbsaint, it has certainly been mentioned before. Would be worth sending a PM to bjanzen and seeing if theres any update.

George, As I don't use LO at all, I had not thought in depth about file transfers to it. I can however, understand your frustration with trying to use LO as the primary means to assemble and create graphic documents. I speculate that Dxf2Su doesn't support anything that SU itself doesn't require as surface modeler, like line weights and fonts. Wounder is it's manageable for SU and LO support different Dxf compatibilities.

That last sentence should have read "for the stand-in MODEL that's in the LayOut template." Let me know if that's not clear. b

@rhankc said: ...If a secton's cut edge could be selectable, the surface could be made and then a material used... You can already right click on a section plane and "Create group from slice" which will create edges that are already selectable or even better, use TIG's (recently updated) SectionCutFace plugin to even make those faces you wish Of course, it's still in SU and even if you use these methods, you still cannot dimension in LO which I understand is the major wish of many LO users (me not included but understanding the need)

yep, just remember to be 'inside' the group your want scaled otherwise it'll resize the entire model. if you want say 5 grouped objects to all be scaled, just group them, enter inside and scale. explode then to get it back to your 5 groups.

@daniel said: Thanks Gaieus. Now I am embarrassed to have missed such an easy item. Can you erase this thread to hide my stupidity? @unknownuser said: Daniel, don't feel sorry for your missing this item. I also had to look very closely to find this out. [...] That's why I like these forums so much: it is great source of information, also for those who have missed certain details and I myselve are still one of those, even after many years of intensive GSU-use. Indeed, everyone learns something new here - I'd leave it for others' sake so that they can also learn. Actually, David, I hadn't known the answer myself either so I just opened LO to see what can be done. I was just lucky to find it. In fact, most time I open LO is just to find answers to questions on the forums; I rarely use it myself (yet - maybe in my next project).

@unknownuser said: I would like to have an option to define two independent resolutions for: screen (say 75dpi - for easy, faster editing and smaller layout file size) printing (say 300dpi) I have found it quite irritating when having to switch back and forth resolutions when editing and printing. LO2 has edit/output resolution settings.

@unknownuser said: I hope that in the future release of LayOut we have the ability to set a layer specific to a page. [as with ACAD] If it is, it will provide another function to visibilty to a LayOut file without duplicating layers for each page... Try LO 2 and see if it does what you want.

If you have 3d components for these objects here is a solution. For each object component, have duplicate versions on different layers (top, front, left, . . . , 3d). By default use the 3d view, and have other layers set to off. But when you are in top view for example, disable the 3d layer, and turn on the top layer. I've thought about this for working with trees. 3d for perspective, but plan version for plans or as working object to speed things up. If you want an easy way to see all of these views in Layout, Just setup a paired SketchUp and Layout file with views already setup. Then just drop component into your SketchUp file, goto Layout and Adjust the scale as needed for that specific component.

(Besides, to be honest, I never found answers for that workaround. And it hurts when you need to switch SU off to go elsewhere to finish. It's so much fun! the nearly best design e-tool I've ever had. The very best one will be SULO 7... I hope)
