Maybe it was so slow in multicore that nobody realised it was.
I have a mac, so i've never seen multicore LO.

Please, don't take this that I don't LOVE SU and LO - but they are causing me to pull my hair out being so slow! I'd just love for SU team to rectify!

I know that its been asked for, but please please Sketchup could you get Layout working on Multicore computers. It is criminal that my large Layout file is taking H O U R S to work on my Multicore Mac Pro!

Your little fix in System Preferences did the trick. I must have flicked that on when I was fiddling about with trying to setup iTunes volume controls! It did the trick immediately.

Hopefully someone can help me! I've had SU installed for ages (Pro version) and all of a sudden something has gone wrong with the shortcuts. Basically - when I hit the space bar, rather than getting the select arrow, the 'Model Info' window opens (on the Location tab) and expects an input. As you can imagine this is pretty frustrating!
I have looked at the Shortcuts preferences, and all seems to be ok. I have even (tried) to completely uninstall SU and reinstall, but hasn't solved the problem (I don't think I managed to uninstall all folders).
Any suggestions anyone?

Hi, an old post I know - but time to reinvigorate it maybe with a version update looming (well here's bring hopeful anyway!). Agree, LO has revolutionized the way I use SU for my commercial business - well done SU team.

Strongly agree with:
1.-Hatch patterns (vector) - AGREE!!! Patterns such as cross, dot, etc and then other more standard construction hatches like concrete, grass, etc.
5.- Ability to import (AND EXPORT!!) dwg/dxf vector files - please! This would be HUGE!!!!!

And
9. -Ability to have layered title block, so that it is fundamentally same on every page, but with ability to change page number (automatic!), scale (automatic!), page title, etc.
10. -Better dimensioning - it is just a bit 'clunky' and I have problems with the dimensions snapping back to actual page measurements not scale model measurements.
11. -I don't know if there is anyway that if an ortho scale drawing of a model was dimensioned and labelled, and then it was decided to change the scale, whether all the dimensions and labels would automatically be relocated to work with the new scale (LO sort of manages this already, but not well, and its usually easier just to start again).

There are plenty of others. Any sneaky whispers on pending updates?

Thanks. In Apple-land we are lucky to have 'Preview', the default PDF and image viewer, which also allows splitting and merging! Thanks to your help I was able to PDF the doc today as a whole and send to the client. Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion about merging PDFs - I hadn't thought of that option which will work nicely. Means too that it keeps the file size down.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the issue of losing my dimensions is still a problem - they jump from being scaled correctly to being real mm measurements. Pity.

Yes - merging docs is something I would find very helpful. It comes about from having 2 or 3 people working on a presentation, which is easiest done by them creating their own separate files, and then we merge them all together at the end for the client.

I'm pleased you are reviewing sketchup! It's a great program, and I can't wait for the new improved version!

Largest file I have created is 59.8MB, using over 10,000 2D plants with textures. It takes about 20 minutes to render shadows on my Mac Pro 8-core. I too would love to see SU using more of my available power!

One of the biggest issues I find is faces - especially large ones made with circles/arcs. This constantly causes frustration and often crashing, when trying to make a face re-establish.

For LO the biggest file I have is 298 MB, which contains several copies of the 59.8MB SU document from above, with various annotations, etc. It loads relatively quickly, but is slow to change pages (up to 2 minutes), even on my big machine.

If you are really looking to put out new version, I beg you to read SU and LO wishlists - there are so many things we'd love to have - and personally, I'd pay for an upgrade if they had them.
