Thanks Rich. The solid inspector is essential I've found when creating these sort of volumes.

Really something that is missing for exterior architecture. I cant understand the interest of Lens shift in VFSU when it behaves the way it does. I cant even admit theres no workaround to do what we are after...it is a so obvious tool!

thomthom I tried that, didn't import anything, I am also keen on generating something that isn't completely random, I have a certain topography. TIG this could work assuming it works on non coplanar surfaces, I'll try that Thank you both for replying.

If you haven't saved it twice you can always rename the skb file to skp and you have the previous saved version. greetings, erikB

see this attachment. it is the contents of my copy of Roundcorner_Dir_23. (Not necessarily the latest version) Meanwhile, I see that I need to do some cleanup of my plugins folder, too. [image: Eb5X_Capture.PNG]

Set up a Workplane as shown. Ensure it's large enough to 'catch' all of the projected edges [along the green-axis in your example] Select those edges you want to project. Use my "ExtrudeEdgesByVectorToObject" - drag the vector, constrained [with shift]... [to the green-axis in your example], with an end point that you must picked beyond the Workplane - note how red dots displayed on the Workplane or other objects will indicate the 'hits' and extent of the extrusion. The resultant group will have extruded faces/edges and a set of terminating edges located exactly on the Workplane. Edit that group and Erase all of the unwanted edges/faces, retaining the ones that are on the Workplane. Now you have a group containing the edges projected [in your example along the green-axis] onto the WorkPlane...

Just gotta say that the Tgi3D plugin is amazing. I've been messing around with it, trying to familiarize myself with how it works, and I'm just stunned.

@dtrarch said: Check out the Adobe examples. Looks like the 3D PDF's were all produced by SimLab plugins. The one with dimensions was just not a SU export. What makes you think they were produced with the Simlab plugin? I looked at several of the 3D PDF examples on the Adobe web page but see no indication they were output from the SimLab plugin. ?? Futher, Simlab Soft support told me "Units saved in 3D PDF are always converted to meters, so all measurements will be in Meter." Yet, several of the examples I looked at have the units/scale set to inches or mili-meters. So, it seems rev 2.4 of the SimLab plugin has another problem - it won't export the units/scale from SketchUp into the 3D PDF. Without that information in there, Acrobat Reader will pop up a dialog to ask the user what units/scale they want when you go in to measure/analysis mode - which is confusing for the reader/user. I do hope the SimLab plugin gets improved soon...

@dave r said: Jeff, I just tried the same sphere with JPP on my MacBook with OSX 10.6.8. It was just as fast as on my PC. yeah.. i had a corrupt plist file.. still wandering how it became corrupted in the first place but i'm back to normal now.. i briefly tried to find something weird in there and i came across these two entries.. [image: 3GGg_1.jpg] [image: 1ZQf_2.jpg] there's a jointpushpull and a joinpushpull1 (no 't' in joint?) i'm not sure if both of those should be in there and if not, i'm not sure how the extra one came into play.. maybe an older version? (i've been using this same plist for a while now.. transferred my su7 settings to it etc.. i dread refreshing my su environment but maybe this is a clue that i should do it now )

With respect, I cringe when I read the title of your thread. What do you mean by good? and what context are you proposing to use such a plugin for? You lose a lot of time because you lack an understanding of who the drawings, you are producing, are for. Are you producing Working Drawings? or are you producing Preliminary Design Drawings? Mixing Windows with Glass curtain walls is like trying to mix oil and water. No typical residential window, is not going to preform as a Glass curtain wall installed in a 50 story Highrise. You also capitalize glass THICKNESS. I have never tried to show the thickness of a sheet of glass, particularly difficult in the old days, using a 4H mechanical pencil Drawings consist of 2 parts Specification and working drawings. Specification normally describe the quality of the materials used. The working drawings are concerned with how the Window is going to be attached to the structural frame of the building. If your are producing Preliminary design drawings "less is more " less detail is actually more desirable, it will reduce the file size in SketchUP. Imagine how much you can reduce the file size of a 50 story highrise using a simple sheet to glass in the exterior openings versus showing a detailed curtain wall profile. Also showing Glass THICKNESS, is not a good thing if you intend to render Glass using Vray.

Thanks, I understand the limitations. I just wanted something to clean-up carelessly-named components. I was also thinking about a plugin for renaming definitions based on their "_name" atributes (for DC's) so the component names in the Outliner and the names in the Dynamic Attributes editor matched up.

I think this is RADICAL! This is the missing link or missing native tool. It's another push-pull / follow-me function. This obviates the need for many typical "intersection" applications (eg. roof constructions and rake walls). Just pick some roof lines (hip or gable) and run them into adjacent roofs and walls. A dormer is made from the 2d elevation. DesignWorkshop had a similar feature long ago, with some other tweaks for components. I think it only went in the Z direction though. I'm going to have this tool out and ready to use. Should be fun. Thanks TIG!
