    • RE: 1001 bit tools- crash in 13

I'm getting a lot of crashes as well with certain tools. 'extend to edge or face' seems to do it all the time.

I've activated with sketchup run as administrator, and I've run it as the only plugin installed.

Submitted a message to the author a few days ago and have not heard back.

Has anyone figured this one out?

      Anyone found a solution?

I'll bite. ValiArchitects tools are always useful, and this looks like a great one!

it does indeed look very useful, but being a yearly subscription and needing an internet connection to work pretty much means it's a couple steps away from useless for me. bummer

    • RE: Texgrid to control panelization of a material?

      ah, getting close.

is there a definable relationship of U,V values to sketchup units? or is it in relationship to original material texture size? I've never been certain.

say I wanted the panels to be in a 2'x4' grid (centerlines). Is this possible with reasonable accuracy, or is this what valero was originally getting at?

    • Texgrid to control panelization of a material?

      SU 8 MR4 & 1.49.01

      Hi all,

I've got a perforated metal material, and somehow I need to break it up into defined size panels. I could make a texture of the panel size, complete with panel edges and gaps, and tile that, but since the panel size could change (a lot), it occurred to me that it may be possible to define the panel somehow using texgrid. I played around with it a little and couldn't get anywhere. Anybody do this?

      Best,
      C

    • RE: Poor performance on new computer

Errr. it's back again, even after a fresh reboot.

I'm thinking it might be plugin related. With the new computer, I sought out updates and new plugins to try. If I delete my plugins folder and repair the sketchup install, it seems to be fine. Copy all the plugins back in and it's acting up again.

guess I have to install one at a time and see where it is.

      And that fixes it.

      Thanks all.

    • RE: Poor performance on new computer

Yeah, tried that, as well as forcing it to lower quality across the board in the nVidia panel.

      Some new findings:

If I start sketchup after a reboot, it works fine.

The second I start firefox, the lag sets in, and remains even after firefox is closed.

So.... Are there any resources that firefox uses that sketchup uses as well?

    • Poor performance on new computer

      Hi all,

I recently upgraded my main home computer From a Q9550/6GB RAM / GT240 GDD5 to a Xeon 1275V2 (basically a 3770)/ 16GB / GT640 GDDR5 machine. But the new computer has worse performance, only in sketchup viewports, than the old one. Everything else is way faster, including viewports in other 3D applications (rhino). With a model that I could rotate around/ display smoothly with the GT240, I'm seeing heavy stuttering (2-5 FPS). I actually see much better performance if I disable hardware acceleration.

      • I've updated to the latest nVidia drivers
      • I've made sure I have the latest sketchup
      • I've tried disabling fast feedback
      • I've set AA to 0x, 2x and 4x in sketchup with no noticeable difference in performance
      • I've tried forcing low quality rendering in the driver panel

Using the GPU observer gadget, I've confirmed that the GT640 GPU is not being constrained by load, VRAM, or temperature. That leaves driver settings, windows settings, and sketchup settings, of which I can see nothing out of the ordinary.

      Help?

    • Red/cyan stereoscopic output

So I noticed that the framebuffer has red/cyan and green/magenta buttons in the row along the bottom left. Did a couple quick tests, and it seems that the separation between the red and the cyan is too great - parts of the model fly off to one side or the other.

Does anyone have any info on setting up for stereo in Vray? Can't find anything on the net.
