@dave r said: Check this out. There's a command for Center Selection which would probably get you started. On my PC I have his toolbar set up so Zoom Extents zooms to a selection if there is one. Thanks! The plugin from Jim's website (Is it the same Jim?) works!! It zooms to the selected item no matter how far or where it is. The plugin can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/jimfoltz/my-sketchup-plugins/zoom-selection-extents

Move the .rb file from where you saved it to the Plugins folder under SketchUp. Before doing so, be sure you have full administrative rights to the Plugins folder. restart Sketchup after pasting the rb file into the Plugins folder.

could be stupid but my SU kept crashing when i would create a group from slice, so i tried fiddling around with other variables. i found that when i turned off axes and guides when i was slicing the model, it stopped crashing. dont know why, just did.

In the value control box (VCB), you can enter relative and absolute coordinates too, see this help page...

Thank you for the replies. I thought I was a bit unclear as what I want to do. Maybe my intended work flow will help to better understand. Create 3D model in Sketchup Unwrap / Uv map model in Wings 3D. I know, I know, There are other better ones but I find Blender very intimidating. Export the UV. map as a image to be "painted" on. Import the Uv map image into sketchup and a apply to a square face. Trace the face lines (shells) of each part using SU's line tool. Apply the desired line style. Export the face with all the lines to a new image but this image must be the same size as the original UV map image. To be honest I am not even sure what line style was used in SU to create the grime / dirt layer. I will try your suggestions and post again if needed. Thanks once again.

You're right TIG, to be honest I am always too in a hurry on one hand and too lazy on the other hand to put the texts on the right layer... I will follow your advice. Many thanks for the prompt answer and for what you bring to the community!

@tig said: BUT... then you can select the facets [leaving the lowest ones unselected], Rotate tool locked flat with shift-key and snapped to top apex, rotate them by a suitable angle [depends on the number of segments in the original circle] - or snap rotate vertex to midpoint. Then deselect the lowest selected facets etc, repeat the rotation step... repeat this until all of the facets are rotated and the facets' angles are all 'equilaterals'... hi,TIG,thanks for your reply. It could work for a regular shape like sphere or cylinder. If I have more complex geometry it's hard selecting specific edges one by one and rotate them. I think there must be a sort of algorithms to firstly divide mesh by hexagons or diamond pattern and then subdivide it in triangles. It could be convenient if there is ruby code, instead of using other program.
