Thinking ahead (for next version?): Ability to name sets Ability to lock sets (currently, the lowest-numbered set is removed once the 21st set is created, and each set is renumbered. Locking would prevent a set from being displaced) Ability to save sets in the model for future reference Input is appreciated.

The Tools observer has some problems - "toolname" is truncated on the Mac, making it hard (or impossible) to get the active tool based on name. However, the toolid works fine. class MyToolsObserver < Sketchup;;ToolsObserver def onActiveToolChanged(tools, toolname, toolid) #do stuff here puts "Selected tool; #{toolid} ;; #{toolname}" end end Sketchup.active_model.tools.add_observer(MyToolsObserver.new) That said, to constrain drawing to a 2D plane will probably require recreating all the tools with the constraints built in.

OK folks, this is a new screenshot. I know, there are two "undefined", which are the result of hand-editing the history file - it's old stuff. Anything you can see on this tab is working. The other tabs ... well ... I have to care. The Tasks tab is OK, you can see all tasks ordered and add new to the current model. I've removed some bad bugs and added some other functions, for instance a menu entry to get the window back on place where you can see it and with size, which fits to your monitor resolution. The black bar you can see is a one I hover with the mouse. And something more to colors: I use the system colors, so if your menu items are dark red, you will have dark red elements in that UI. azuby [image: mh_screenshot_web.jpg]

I think the housebuilder plugin provides most of the 2D/3D connections you suggest; you can draw 3D walls glued onto the 2D plane and they would still appear 2D in 2D Mode since perspective would be off. Section planes can also clip things down to only the 'plan' level, keeping all the 3D stuff out of the way. As for auto dimensioning, that does have a pretty good thread going already; I think the two could work together, but shouldn't be integrated into the same function/tool; you may not always want both. Your link to the Paintshop pluging contained no explanation whatsoever of the word bump map. That is why I placed another url, to a Gimp plugin that does explain that term. But the Paintshop plugin is a smart bumpmapper and not a real SFS. @unknownuser said: Animation of space ship going through a tunnel (seen at right) lined with rocks. Bump maps of the rock material were created by the Shape from Shading plug-in. @unknownuser said: Image can be rendered as a bump map in your 3d application First quote can be read under Tunnel.avi, second is the end of the plug-in demo SFS.avi. edit: added model to demonstrate difference between BM and SFS. This guy is nice and grey. I have neither BM nor SFS software installed. But I believe BM will probably push this man into the background while SFS at least theoretically should be able to see that he is floating in mid air. We can see that at first glance. It was the intention of mister (professor? doctor?) Horn, on of the founding fathers of SFS to give computer vision that very same level of intelligence. The S from Shape stands for 3D, bump maps can give a very nice 3D impression, but are actually no more 3D than stereoscopy. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/sas/Ruby/BMP%20vs%20SFS.skp

I booked this a while back when one of our clients had a prototype of their hotel franchise built in Second Life for some reason. (Why do you need a hotel in a world where there is no rain, and no one gets tired, and no one need to use the bathroom? ) http://www.3pointd.com/20060929/simple-sketchup-to-second-life-exporter/ I'm afraid that I haven't pursued it farther than that, but perhaps the linked application is what you are looking for. --Lewis [Lewis Wadsworth]

I see different rub...I mean jewels to enhance the SU experience, I am finding designing in SU so easy, It plays well with others, raster images work, dwgs work, the file structure is simple, groups and layer system is very nice, SU into my cad is awesome, though I'd rather stay outta there. I see developers mentioning add-in programs that are furthering the SU experience, and making it possible to wean us off cad as we knew it. there are scripts and command structures imulating all the things we loved about our respective cad programs, thus I ask the question: What favorite commnands are you pros finding to help you get to the deliverable "the drawings are on paper" and I'm finished with this job: pay me stage? It seems the rub... developers can make SU do anything!

I am not aware of a way to do this via ruby, other than to create an observer to report the current ratio as the user changes the size of the window manually. I have thought about doing this one, but haven't gotten to it yet.

@fletch said: ...Is there a limit to the number of Ruby scripts one is allowed to have in their Plugins folder with SU6free? I don't think so; on my office computer I also have the free version (soemtimes good to have it, actually) and though I'm almost "off the map" with the list of my rubies, they still do appear.
