If it is indeed the 'CW15Auto.dll' file that is somehow corrupted/infected - as Csaba's link [finally] suggests - then I don't know how you go about fixing it...

That thread does not suggest this... most of the people posting in that thread are "grasping at straws". This 'CW15Auto.dll' file, is specific to the OP's application, called "SONAR".

The one guy that KNOWS what is going on... it seems, cannot be understood by most of the other readers and posters.

The issue is that the MSVC 2005 runtime redistributable needs to be updated by the SketchUp installer, but the original msi installer packages have been removed (deleted by the user.) The originals must be there so that they can first do an uninstall, before the newer version can do it's install.

It's a major headache, I have first-hand experience with, because I did not think I needed the MSVC msi packages anylonger, and manually deleted (what I thought were temporary installer folders,) in the root directory of my drive.

Now I cannot update (or actually uninstall,) any of the Visual Studio Languages.

I either need to wipe the drive, and re-install everything... or spend a day or two, manually cleaning up files and the registry, to put the machine back into a pre-install state. (Or.. I may try what this post suggests... manually re-creating the installer directory and copying a good msi file from my mother's XP machine.)

Ok, than you can see what I`ve debugged in the folder picture. Physics is on of the last one i renamed so lest see how it goes.
Thank you so much for your time Thomas.

May it rain cookies on you forever. If we should ever meet, I`ll buy you a pint. πŸ˜‰

    EDIT 21.06

Seems that SU-physics was the troublemaker here. That is a little sad cause i really like it 😞
Then again it is much better to have a working SU πŸ˜„

    Thanks again Thomas. πŸ‘

This fixes the issue perfectly. Hopefully this is a bug that will get addressed by Trimble.

There also a handy plugin from Liquid98 called "Boolean Helper" that gives you a couple of new toolbar buttons for very quickly scaling up and down - there's a choice of scale factors, and it even automatically zooms to make sure you can see everything when the size changes.

My model would not export some surfaces to Google Earth .kmz

Turned out that only certain colours were failing to export. They were all renamed colours, appearing in my "In Model" colour set.

I tried updating to Sketchup 8.0.11752, and renaming the colours again, but it didn't work. Tried "fixing" the problem in the model-info menu but that didn't work.

Thanks to your hint, I edited the RBG by one notch and it fixed the problem. Don't know why or how my colours got corrupted.

Malcolm, although I am not a hardware expert, I doubt that that chipset fully supports OpenGL (the 3D rendering engine behind SU). What happens if you disable hardware acceleration under Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings in SketchUp?

Ok, attached is the scene. I had to remake it quickly because i trashed the other one. I added a pre-made Sketchup person component to the scene thinking that maybe it was my custom people and trees causing the issue, but the even the Sketchup component wouldn't receive shadows until I exploded it (which isn't an option for me). Thanks for help.

    Hi Jeff,
The process of deleting the folder and put a new'd done, and to no avail.
I went to the radical process, reinstalled SU.
    Ok now this.
    Thank you all.

The only other thing I can think of that might cause this, may be Firmware write-cache handling by the IDE of the harddrives themselves.

To change this you would need to run an OEM utility downloaded from the harddrive manufacturer's website.

I've never come across this...but frequently come across the opposite...edges unsoftening. From comments here, it seems to be the same cause...an object being left selected for a while, while you're busy with other stuff. It usually happens if I copy/paste from one file to another and forget to immediately deselect the geometry in the intial file after copying. It doesn't need the soften edges dialog open; that's not involved if you are merely opening a file to copy a section of it. The mere action of leaving an object selected is enough.

My statement maybe off the mark above

    but

I perfer turning off openGL and to use the smaller DirectX8
My machine seem to run faster. Shetchup dosn't need much of a graphics support.

"OpenGL has always been better in the professional graphics market than DirectX, while DirectX is used mostly for computer games. Currently both OpenGL and DirectX have a large enough overlap in functionality that either could be used for most common purposes, with the operating system itself often being the primary criterion dictating which is used, with DirectX the common choice on Windows, and OpenGL being used on nearly everything else. Some esoteric applications still divide the applicability of the two APIs:"

    Now Troobleshooting
Safe mode doesn't use the NVIDIA driver or nor DirectX9c , so modeling would be slower and the infomation will be helpful.
    See if it stable there?

Try tweaking your NVIDIA control panel to tune-up sketchup (turn on/off openGL)
Old programs like sketchup can use DirectX8 or DirectX9c if installed
    Right click, SketchUp.exe - properties - compatibility - xp
The frame work you may have loaded is MS thus work better with DirectX
For OpenGL 3.0 DirectX10 need to be loaded to pc .

Sketchup 8 Very unstable on my system
    By jimminy121212 - 9 posts - 35 views - updated Mar 29 (16 hours ago)

    SketchUp Version: 8

    "Win7-64bit SP1, 2.13 GHz Intel Xeon, nVidia Quadro 2000, 12 GB Ram
I am experiencing crashes all the time on my system. It often seems to do with panning, especially when inside a group or component or just after closing one or the other, though not always. I would say it just seems generally unstable and buggy on this computer.
My toolbars and menus won't stay put either. Every time I open SU I have to realign everything".

"SketchUp Pro does provide technical support. Go to Help > Contact us and fill out the technical support form. The support staff would be the ones who can interpret the splats".

"You write that your model is getting large. There are some techniques to help you manage larger models" https://sites.google.com/site/sketchupsage/faster.

"Try tweaking your NVIDIA control panel" https://sites.google.com/site/sketchupsage/problems/gpu#TOC-Graphics-card-control-panel-tune-up.

"Something could be conflicting with SU which causes the program to crash. I personally had a mouse driver become corrupted over time and end up causing nasty problems with SU. I remember another nasty crash problem being attributed to a printer driver for someone else. Some SU plugin may cause problems. Troubleshooting crashes without knowing knowing where to begin poking around is a bit of a crap shot. To help isolate system conflicts try running SU in clean boot, keeping note of running processes. I've used HijackThis to record a log of running processes. If the problem still occurs in clean boot, try safe mode and record the running processes for comparison with the running processes in normal mode and clean boot. Safe mode doesn't use the NVIDIA driver, so modeling would be slow."

    πŸŽ‰ just trying to help.

Sounds like a bug.. you'd think it would be safer to use a timstamp in the name of the "temp" skb file.
