@valerostudio said: Being a better rendering artist is so much more. It's about understanding the art and not so much the software or technique. I would say that it more important to understand good composition and light balance than to know how to use an HDRI or what Fresnel is. The software tricks is something that should come later. Grab a sketch book and some watercolor paint and go today and draw something. So many of us on here are stuck behind the mouse we lose the artistic side of things and get hung up on bump mapping and Photoshop layers. Thank you for your insight!

Are you able to export simple scenes? Do you have any other plug-ins that might be conflicting with LumenRT?

I'm no genius when it comes to making mats/texturing, it's by far my most deficient area. As far as adjusting it, you can increase the roughness, increase the bump, and/or change the size of the noise texture used to create the bump. These will all affect how "smooth" the flake looks and how much flake there is in the .mat. Change the color of the two lower layers to change the color of the paint.

@tridem said: though, your map seems wrong since reliefs should correspond to white areas. Note that the material preview has a bug and works on the contrary way I believe tridem is right. You need to invert colors of the bump map.

you need to change the windows registry (google search for "sketchup openGL wine") @unknownuser said: If you get the error "SketchUp was unable to initialize OpenGL!], run regedit, open [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConfig\Display], and change "HW_OK" to 1. plus a few more troubleshooting tips here: http://wiki.winehq.org/GoogleSketchup

What format are you using to transfer the model? As cutting edge says - importing SKP format should make the vertices welded. If you use another format it might be that the vertices aren't welded properly.

Thanks for your help, I have tried both threads, but with no luck. I also don't have the full Maxwell suite just the plugin which I think would give me much more freedom. I have removed all textures and materials purged the file and then started again with the materials. But still no luck!!! If I render each face individually they look fine, but as soon as I render the whole project I get my stripey legs back. Thanks again, back to the drawing board. Cheers Matt

The only way I have found to work the conversion of Sketchup to Vue is not using the plugin of e-on software, or exporting to obj. Artlantis is the only way i found that work.. Open the sketchup file in Artlantis, export it to obj and import from that file into Vue, work perfectly without it being the classic heavy file or misplaced textures. Who would have thought that Artlantis is the best way to use Vue for sketchup. regards nacho

@notareal said: @atlastudio said: Would like to know how to reduce noise if there's any experts reading! Not sure how materials and scene is set, but I do get a impression that most light comes from the Sun trough a glossy based glass (a real glass that creates caustics) curtain wall. Some "tricks": Thin Film based glass (architectural glass) will speed up convergence a lot. TR2 will render most challenging light paths and materials (naturally with cost of render time) Super-Sapling set to "High" with TR1/TR2 helps to reduce noise Use some fill light (a emitter that is not visible to the camera) to boost convergence, if most of the light comes trough glossy based glass. Note: light components and mesh emitters intersecting nearby mesh may cause noise as well as emitters that has really dense polygon mesh. Make sure that pure white and black are not used, keep diffuse colors in 6-96% range. Thanks for the tips, have just coughed up and bought it today so looking forward to seeing what i can achieve.

Have you tried ThruPaint? http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=44552 or as unwrapping solution a commercial plugin: SketchUV http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=44501 I use ThruPaint and it works great for me. But all faces have to be quads for some tools. And you should enable "Ignore Distortion" For groups/components who contain ThruPaint mapping otherwise the maxwell plugin will export one per quad face!

@pieterv said: I don't always understand how other people are managing there lights. Like, when you have a look at this image in attachement. (made by http://nemostudio.pl) you can see that the sun is casting bright rays of light on the floor in the living room, but at the same time all the rooms in the appartement are lit very evenly and diffuse. I think this is a very special example and not comparable to your situation. I would say that this is lit without ceiling/walls with one or two emitters in front of the windows to simulate the sun. When you look at the next two images of the interior renderings section on this site (http://nemostudio.pl/wizualizacje/wizualizacje_wnetrz/ ) below the one you posted, you will see a similar situation like the one in your renders.
