Really impressive work and amazing attention to details. I guess you visited the place to get the real feeling of that architecture. If not, you really got it right out of the box!
thanks a lot omiKron for your kind comment! My only visit to the place took place 15 years ago, but I still remember the lighting feeling...
the making-of-Oculus was recently published at SketchUpArtists if you guys would like to take a look here:

Fantastic job, novena. Would love to see more of the model.
Thanks Daniel for your comment!!
due to the lack of time I only detailed the part visible on the render, here come some screenshots, the whole scene was setup in SketchUp and Maxwell, and used blender to model all the details for cornices and capitals

RE: Oculus, ancient Rome
thank you guys for your comments , yes I wanted to keep it simple and sober.
it was a great experience trying to learn to model all those organic shapes of acanthus leaves and volutes on capitals and cornices.for those blenderist interested, this thread was a key help:

Oculus, ancient Rome
hi guys!
this is Oculus, my entry to the ancient Rome competition hosted by Humster3D, the subject of my entry is the roman Pantheon, largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, built ca. AD 128 during Hadrian's reign.
modeled with Sketchup and Blender, rendered with Maxwell Render, post production Photoshop.
hope you like it.
My entry got the Special prize Maxwell Render team choice in the competition...

RE: Blender sketchup files importer
I confirm the importer works great, there's some UVs issues hopefully it is going to be fixed soon... imported straight from SU, added a sun lamp and positioned with the add-on 'sun position'... SU 2015 & blender 2.74

@ deaneau
thanks for the advise, add-on is the way plugins are called in Blender, I've been a Blender user for a couple of years -
RE: Blender sketchup files importer
