@al hart said: If you use RPC for other things - Revit, Photoshop, etc., then try it out with IRender nXt and let us know what you think. I am not using RPC and I don't know if other forum members do. The reason why I asked is because I would love to be able to include animated textures in my animations. Things like a moving sky with clouds, people walking, animated water etc.... I just said RPC as I don't know how it is done otherwise. (Marlin Studios moving people etc...)

I've been doing some experimentation and research in regards to the instancing issue with maxwell and found some interesting info. There seems to be a bug that can drastically increase render times with instances. Without going into details of my test and forum discussions, here's the deal. If your instance AND/OR the original object from which your instance is taken intersects with any other object in the scene your render times go WAY up (my tests were showing like 15x longer). However, instances CAN intersect with other instances. -Brodie

Roof tile? Haven't seen that, but I have seen TIG's excellent "Roof 3.0": http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=3470

Hm. Interesting. When I installed the 3DC software, it installed into my SU 7 directory with no problem. Maybe you should run the installer again? Also, there should not only be a subfolder in the Plugins folder for the device but also a ruby script (I can't recall its name now as I'm not at home where I have it but you will definitely recognise it by the name).

Brodie the best thing You can do is search OC and Hardware forums or simply google. Write your mobo and cpu model in search field and that's it. There are lots of info and tutorials about how to do that OC process depends on Your mobo and processor type generally. One thing that I can tell sure is that values in bios You must rise very slowly especially if You doing it in first time

Ok, here are the results of my test. First, I made the test with Podium Evaluation 1.6, using Saphua Plugins + Podium Animate. Here's a screenshot during rendering: [image: B2S6_Podium_animating.jpg] And another one when it crashed after rendering the first 175 frames: [image: 8I35_Podium_bugsplat.jpg] After checking the rendered files timestamps, I calculated Podium took 55 minutes to render those 175 frames. After that, I got bored and went to sleep, but I woke up and decided to make the Kerkythea test. Since Podium automatically adds reflections to glass materials, I added "TG_" to the name of the glass material before exporting it to Kerkythea, so Kerkythea would have to render reflections, too. Here's a screenshot of Kerky rendering the animation: [image: 7CMN_kerky_animating.jpg] Since SU Podium had crashed after completing 175 frames, I stopped the Kerky animation after that same number of frames, to calculate how much time it took to do the same thing. It took 6 minutes, which means it was 9x faster than Podium. (Feb-27 EDIT: I did additional testing experimenting with the number of cores and Kerky turned out to be 15x faster than Podium for this same test. You can read the report here.). In both cases I used 230x150 as the render size, 03. PhotonMap - Quick.xml as the configuration file, and all the quality and antialiasing sliders were to the extreme left in Podium. In both cases I surfed http://www.sketchucation.com a couple of times during rendering, although this was next to impossible during the Podium render as it peaked at 100% CPU use, while Kerky only used half of it. Conclusion: Podium was never intended as an animation tool. I take back what I said in my first post recommending it for animation. If you need camera-only animation, use Kerkythea. If you need animated cars and people, use 3dsMAX.

BTW, is there any way to soften reflections? PS its too bad the lighting dosn't work like you'd expect, light controls overall brightness and dark controls contrast of shadows.

Hi, I can see RpWallMaker being useful, though I would like to see the following changes: Place the wall offset from the drawn line, rather than making the drawn line the centre line of the wall (or have the option of offsetting at least). This would enable working with imported dwg. files and actual internal or external dimensions. The hole insertion point would be easier to use if located on the top corner of the rectangle. Lintels over openings often align even if openings are of differing heights. If openings were sub components of the wall, they would be easier to select and then move when the wall is exploded or edited.

I am having this very same problem with mirror_31.rb crashing my SU7. Everything was working properly and about 30 min into a model, SU started crashing every time I try mirroring something. After several crashes, I tried mirroing again with the Outliner window closed and everything worked fine! My guess is that after the model starts getting more complex SU can't handle updating the Outliner as efficiently in this case after using the mirror tool? Don't know if this applies to you Dik but it might be worth a check. Fefo

There is a more professional piece of software available called Lamina which is also designed to unfold geometry. It allows you to input the real thickness of the material being unfolded, and then it prepares a cutting sheet with numbers and even tabs if you want them. You can save the output as a DXF cutting path for use with laser or plasma cutters or a waterjet/waterknife. http://laminadesign.com/index.html It's pricy...$395, but it's aimed at fabricators and rapid prototyping shops. I bought a copy after learning that some sculptors were using it for preparing sheetmetal for assembly...it does a nice job making complexly curved surfaces developable (not that's a situation you often see with SketchUp models...with Rhino, it's inevitable).
