Problem with repeated crashing of Sketchup when rendering
-
Three of my users (all of the people using IRender here) are having persistent problems with Sketchup crashing when they try to render their drawings. They have done some renderings successfully, but about the same number of times Sketchup closes while they are trying to render using IRender. There are no error messages--just Sketchup closing suddenly and without warning. A check of the Application log shows events with this message: Hanging application SketchUp.exe, version 6.4.112.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000. Is anybody else having this problem? Better yet, does anyone have any suggestions about how to prevent these crashes?
Both Sketchup and IRender have valid network licenses.
One other detail: Sometimes, instead of crashing Sketchup, the rendering process results in the IRender Preview window displaying only solid black instead of a rendering. Don't know if this is related or not, nor what its significance might be.
Thanks in advance for your attention and (hopefully) help.

Hi ghasapidis,
what version of IRender are you using? Have you contacted them to see if there is an update, or if they know about this problem?
Have you experimented with Open GL settings in SketchUp or on the machine?
Have you checked to make sure your video graphics drivers are the latest?
I know, a bunch of questions, but this may help figure out what you've tried.
Cheers,

Thanks for your replies! I hadn't realized that IRender nXt was the next generation after IRender 2, but I just downloaded and installed it per your suggestion, and I'll let you know if this solves the problem.
Thanks again,

Yes - we have pretty much moved on to IRender nXt. It is a free upgrade for anyone who purchased IRender after June 2007.
We are getting much better rendering results from IRender nXt. However, animation is not working yet and we haven't figured out hw to support RPC objects from ArchVision.

IRender nXt does seem to have solved my problem with Sketchup crashing, but now I'm having some new issues. Since there's a separate forum for nXt, I'll start a new thread there. Thanks again for the help.

We are putting put a new version today. I fixed some problems which were causing some other drawings to crash.

OK, I'll be sure to download it and check it out. Thanks.

We have uploaded the new version, HH12a.
You can download a copy from: http://www.renderplus.com/pdf/download.htm

You should go to:
http://www.renderplus.com/pdf/download.htm
to get the latest version of IRender nXt - HH01a.
(You mention the preview window. That is no longer used in the latest version of IRender nXt - so it is possible you are using IRender V2.0, or an earlier version of IRender nXt)
We have not had any crash reports with this latest version (although it is always possible that we will see some crashes)
If you still get crashes with this version, let us know, and send your model to
if you can so we can try it here.(Usually are crashes are not related to OpenGL settings. They are more likely caused by large models, and with some problems we have been having extracting the data properly for the renderings.)
