@radorn said: I don't mind using convoluted procedures OK, since you insist Actually, there is a great free program called Vivaty Studio. The company has gone thru several re-brandings over the last few years (Flux, MediaMachines). I think they are targeting the social networking community (almost like Second Life). But anyhow... The tool is very good at parsing VRML and it's successor (X3D). It can read and export to many formats, some supported by SU. [image: piqL_io1.png] [image: 25wM_io2.png] Juan

@perk said: What I find odd is that what I was draping was a closed plane, why is it that after draping it became open? Why? I can't tell. As I noticed, it was a minor missmatch in the z-value. One endpoint was +0.000000 the other was -0.000000 Try if a P/P of the parking area right through the terrain, followed by intersection of selected will also cause the same problem. Most likely they are the same lines, there were only two forming an odd couple, not being collinear. Hover (with the 'Query' tool cursor) over endpoint to locate the ones matching the values that I gave you. It will only take a minute to find the lines at these endpoints. Finding the culprit should not take more than 5 to 10 minutes. In View => Hidden Geometry start dividing the area into two. Half of it will show no problems. Continue to do so in the faulty area and you will find mistakes in no time. (in case of a coplanar situation let the weld ruby do part of the work. Here it is of no use) Glad to see you found and repaired the parkinglot-problem. Wo3Dan

cduscher,, Boofredlay,,,, Holly Crud!!!!! Neat stuff!! Not only will this take care of "crown" it will do a bunch more for me. Boofredlay, the follow me tool does the drawing and cduscher the video takes care of breaking apart the model and making separate components. Can't get much better! Thank you guys, Mike

@double espresso said: FBG... Info about your OS would be helpful. DE Windows XP I got the model re-done during a bout of insomnia went pretty quick since I already did it once and had already made all the mistakes. I think it must be because I had it Intersecting a whole model as the power failed. Bad timing I would say. Anyway I got it rebuilt now I can start on the next one.

Here is a good video from the BaseCamp series. It is "advanced" but it will give you some good ideas about how the tool is used in models. http://sites.google.com/site/3dbasecamp2008/all-sessions-2008/working-with-terrain-and-other-irregular-surfaces

Gaieus, pbacot, You guys are great! Hope your holiday is going good and lots of stuff to play with. Gotta confess, after I posted my question it dawned on me about the "scale" tool. And I figured out about the different ways to use it..... good stuff. Feel bad about asking, but at the time I was lost. Only drawback is if I resize the "thing" none of my "scenes" of the "thing" change to the new size..... It's not a problem because making several new dimension scenes is easier than resizing each component or a complete re-draw. I'm back cranking down the road.......... pbacot,,,,,, I like the "tape" tool and will play with the site you sent. Thank again to both of you,, Later Mike

The model will also be much more manageable and the face/edge count will be halved if you substitute 2D face-me components for the trees, flowers and shrubs. (from about 600000 to less than 300000 edges, for instance) There is also the other problem with the 3D plants you are using. To save disk space, they are divided into many subcomponents that themselves have subcomponents etc (like leaf, branch, etc). This added complexity is also slowing SU down. Anssi

For an image that should not be repeating, follow the instructions in the description field of this Warehouse model. Also, you can use a nifty plugin called "UV Tools" by Whaat. It can UV map a texture both cylindrically or spherically.
