Dukejazz,
Thanks for that.
I did draft a post saying I'd solved the problem, but I must have forgotten to hit "submit"
For anyone else with the same requirements, here's the procedure that worked for me:
Download Make Faces from here: http://www.smustard.com/script/MakeFaces and install
Explode the drawing twice (like you say)
DON'T group the exploded lines to form shapes (tried that, and it prevented the next step from working)
Use Tools>Make Faces to create faces from the spaces bounded by the lines
Push/pull as usual
So I'm a happy bunny
Steve
Thanks, finally ended up doing it so that I drew the logo (a very simple text logo) in SU and push/pulled it up to 3D form, then intersected it with the curved surface and removed extra graphics.

Welcome to the forums.
This place SCF is by far the best place to get help when you need it.
I learned SU from a woodworker named Joe Zey at http://www.srww.com/blog/?p=1335 . Great videos
Also go to Fine Woodworking Blog Design Click Build one of the contributors DaveR is a regular here.
That's who I learned from. I learned thru his tutorial videos.
I'll have to check out some of the rendering programs listed once I get better at SU.

Then picked up the line again, simplified this line to remove excess vertices, dips and bumps before finally doing the follow me and keep road
Good point. I should have done that.

... the problem seems to have solved itself.
Thanks heaps.

One thing is worth noting here: with the stamp tool, you cannot stamp surfaces that have vertical faces (i.g. curbs). You always need to "cheat" a little bit by adding 1-2 degree deviance from true vertical.
And thanks again.
You cannot get all components automatically updating. That would mean live external reference system in SU which does not exist. The closest is TIG's MatrixProximity plugin.

Saving a component within a component will not cause any tragic events but you will have a useless, additional wrapper around the component. Now this wrapper may lack some features like gluing and cutting hole in a wall (like a window) so best is to avoid this.
Normally I do not even load anything straight into SU without having a look how it's made.
As for my archaeological work
I am actually freelancing now and only do stuff that I like (so no boss in that field).
Wow. It looks like you're doing very well and have all the understanding you need to knock the rest out in short order. If you have more specific problems or questions, post back. Details are usually enabling. Other people's deadlines are always a problem, though.
Emerald, thank you for the quick reply. Keyframe will get me to where I need to go, functionally. Does anyone know of a tool or program that can get me the animation function with some nice, cool looking skins... graphics, etc.. I know I'm pushing my luck, bu just want to see what's out there..
I'm going to assume Joe wishs to share a drawing with some one that cannot currently view it in either .skp or cad file format.
Joe if that is the case blink your left eye twice.
seriously...most people can view jpg images which you can use by exporting the view of your model as a jpg
or...you can use a "print to pdf" application if you are familiar. I use pdf995 there are others available.

btw, is there any free plugins to scale by vertex? I mean like FFD in 3ds max to create a better model for flag or blanket, curtain etc?
Like SketchYFFD?

Hi Jean, the example file is overly simplified, but demonstrated my issue, but maybe I over-simplified it. Simply moving the face is possible, but in my situation I had an irregular shape with faces aligned on many different XY angles and I wanted to be able to selectively push-pull them out on the horizontal. As it turned out I needed to use a combination of your technique and smart-push pull to get the shape I wanted. Thanks for your reply - Mick
