I agree. Many manufacturers of stone, brick tile etc. building materials offer ready-made, good quality textures for their products for instance. Now when it comes to modelling and visualizing a buildinh project, I guess at least some of the architects tend to choose wht materials should be built in based on what they can find this way. The same could go for any kind of furniture, appliances in kitchens, bathrooms and all. (And at the same time, would be a good opportunity for some modellers to earn some extra income)

I Understand that that is a rough guide (an effective one non the less) however with the tool you have reccommended is there a way I can prevent certain lines from being effected by the tool yet still have the main mesh attached. basically a static profile. (kinda like using skin soap and bubble tool, the mesh is pinned to the profile that you gave the plugin as an outline to work with)

Please don't double-post - I've removed the duplicate. I don't think you really need a plugin. Make the single piece of 'tape' as you have shown. Make it a component. Insert instances as needed. Use Move+Ctrl to copy to the side the type Nx, where N is the number of copies you want. There you have it. You could also think about making the component so it will 'glue to any surface', that way it will auto align to the face that it's applied onto. You can devise its 'repeat' to be on a 'fold' rather than on a 'mid-point', so that it looks continuous. If necessary use make-unique to make a variant and add start/end 'flaps' to complete the set... If you want to be able to work with them en mass group them or even make another component containing them if you might reuse that elsewhere.

You know you can get the face back by tracing over one or more edges, just be sure that the endpoint inferences show when you hover with the pencil tool.

You could also draw lines marking the length, width and height of the shell, copy the geometry and scale it to those dimensions.

Gaieus, Sorry about the slow response, I've got several photo restoration jobs and just delivered a couple of them. It would be great if I got them one per week, but like everyone else, the work comes in spurts with nothing in between. One was really interesting because the clients great grandfather was holding a gun, seemingly on the photographer, which we didn't really see until half way through the restoration that he was just displaying it. Check in out in "Examples" at my web site adifferentpicture.com I'm afraid the model isn't anything that interesting, at least yet. I'm just making exercises for myself to become better with SU by preconceptualizing shapes and seeing how close I can come. This one is to take a complex base outline and use it as several repeatable components of a larger structure. I need to get better at the basics before I'm able to do some of the models I would like to. So I guess it's just sort of directed playing. If anything looks worth posting out of this one, I will. Thanks for your interest. Lloyd

Can you post the model and thephoto (or the photo already in the model)? as for the image visibility settings, go to your styles panel (Window menu) > in model folder (small house) > edit tab and the last, blue icon (Modelling settings). There, at the bottom, you have two opacity sliders for the background/foreground image. [image: HG8D_pmsettings.png]

This is great. I love learning new stuff. This has also led me to a really cool application (for Sketchup models too) at esperient.com. Thank you for your help!! John

@unknownuser said: Why as the first post there is not a hand sketching introduced ? Text is not sufficient and not speedy as a simple image You're right. A simple image can explain more easily than many words. Still, it's pretty common that first time posters don't post images. The important thing is the OP got the help he needed.

Finally, thanks! even opening the folder does not normally appear to previews of sketchup, but at least opening the program I can see small previews before opening them at random through the descriptions, better than nothing, but I'm not very experienced, you can see my work here. thanks again for the speed of the full answer

Gilles thanks heaps - I knew they'd be a way ! and Dave R thanks for pointing out the subtleties that are needed to make it work. @ Pilou - this is definitely a trippy plugin, I couldn't get it to do what I needed, but I got some interesting results with randomising the components. Regards Mick
