Hi folks. Don't use a mouse with a scroll wheel that has a super soft click because you may inadvertently click the wheel while rolling it. This may put you in orbit mode instead of zoom mode. The best is to try before you buy. I know that, today, with everything in plastic wrap, this becomes difficult. Personnaly, at the office, I use a Dell mouse that behaves well with SketchUp. Just ideas.

Hi, Thanks for your replies. I've tried hidden and un-hidden. The model is within a component but I double-click this in order to edit it (is this right?). There is a mixture of curved and flat faces, I'm attempting to edit a flat face. I'll attach my model in my next post if you are still stuck for answers. Cheers, Ginger_Overlord.

It's been a while since I exported anything to stl...longer than my recent re-installation of SU. I don't see any stl export option in the File menu, so I'm presuming it's not there by default. Were you using an stl export plugin before? In which case it will need to be re-installed.

@kenanaybati said: Hi all, I have just started to model ships, it is a correct way to make a hull? It's a piece of 'hull' [attachment=0:2ew50a1m]<!-- ia0 -->hull.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2ew50a1m] The short answer is no usually splines are used. See these links for tut and free software. http://www.delftship.net/delftship/index.php/downloads/viewcategory/3-delftship-software http://www.delftship.net/delftship/index.php/downloads. These should give the ideas of approach and how Su can be used also. Clarification 4-7 I am not suggesting you use Delftship but rather as some reading so you know what the design process is and the "jargon" used so then you have some concept of what needs to be done in SU. There are some very nice SU models posted and they can be done ,but what I see in your initial post may very well give you some down stream problems.

If the model is first 'cleaned' - i.e. deleting coplanar edges/faces etc - JPP works just fine ...

Another solution without plug Draw a simple Component on a segment of the circle Draw radius and trim the corners of the Component for have perfect fit junction between them for the complete circle Copy rotate *23 if your circle has 24 segments Edit the Component as you want Of course this works only for a circle not for a common curve! click for all image! I now try to keep intersections restricted strictly to the faces and edges and/or components needed. But that doesn't solve my other speed problem. Now I have my model made and I just want to mirror it so I can add the two halves together and then add a few asymmetrical details, but all I get is the "spinning beach-ball of death." It's brutally slow and so annoying. I like using Sketchup, but this is quickly becoming unworkable. I've turned off all extras like shadows and edges and whatever else. I've purged unused elements. I've hidden what I don't need. I just want to copy and mirror the model so I can finish it off and render it, but it's just so slow. I've gone away for more than a half hour lunch and when I come back I still see the spinning beach-ball. Is there nothing that can be done about this? When I check my Activity Monitor it looks like it's using nearly 100% of the CPU (assuming I'm reading it correctly). Is this even normal? I have an older 1.42GHz eMac with Snow Leopard on it and 2GB RAM, but it isn't convenient for me to install Sketchup 8 onto that and transfer the files. Seems rather silly for me to have to consider going back to that from my current iMac with OSX Lion and 8GB RAM.

Baronjutter, have a look here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=40331&start=15 - go about half way down the second page of the thread and you will see I was doing something similar to what you describe and found a solution that worked for me. Regards - Mick

hi guys, thanks for your invaluable help. the original file didn't have changed axes, it happens during import between another programs too, and i can't change it any way. "Flatten vertices" plugin seems to solve this problem without a fuss is there any plugin to help you to move marked face into position of another face you choose. good job guys ! [image: zujcp1.jpg]

Scaling them down within the UV space in Max will mean they now are the size of the imported texture. If you import the .skp into Max it will contain a 512px x 512px brick texture that is filling your UV space. So if you unwrap and arrange then you are effectively placing geometry within the 512 x 512 texture thus it will increase the brick size.

@barcop said: Gaius, thanks for the prompt answer and yes! i downloaded successfully, and installed in plug-ins folder, only to find that on opening SketchUp a load errors window appears saying error loading file, uninitialized constant traducer error. So am stuck again before I can get started with this seductive looking app. Gai's not on at the moment... So... on the thread where you did this download, just below the download-link there is another link to a get required 'library' [it says you need it!]. Get that archived file and extract its subfolder [with its contents intact] into Plugins as well. On a restart the required files should now be found and the errors should have gone... I'm also splitting these few posts into another thread as they are quite 'off topic'...

I stumbled here looking for the subject and went through the various tuts. My method derived from TIG's, but varies (TIG left, mine right). [image: G93D_mobius-2.JPG] I just happened to erase the faces of one of my strips and see that the edges remaining are 8 arcs! Surprised me, anyway. Someone can do something with that, I'm sure. And, Thank You, Walt for making me wonder about this. I had not needed to do this specific verification before, but I could not believe you couldn't pull up this info in some way. There is probably some other way to get the info that I am not aware of.
