@mistro11 said: The follow me tool would not explode my curves when I use it fresh; it's when I try to continue using it after the initial operation. I experienced this when I was installing crown moldings which would not follow all the way around the room in one shot.(complex ceiling) I tried using the existing profile at the end of the extrude and that's where the curves exploded on the new segments. I was just wondering why that happens and was concerned about poly count. Yes, that's it. The curve of the profile gets exploded during the Follow me operation and when you want to use it for another extrusion, it already leaves those edges unsoftened. Just like with an easy example: draw a circle > right click > Explode - and now use the PushPull tool to extrude it to a cylinder. See the same thing. If you select all these edges (just triple click on the geometry - or single click on a component/group) then right click y soften edges, a dialog pops up. There move the slider a little bit to the right to see your edges softened again. You can also see (and edit) these softened edges (and the facets in between) if you turn on hidden geometry under the View menu.

Thanks ely. I actually got some thickness via vector pp. The problem is when I attempt to round the outer edges because of the sharp angle where the curve meets crease. I'm getting close. On my last attempt I got a hole in the geometry. [image: zsJ9_Angular-Problem10.jpg] I tried last night to upload the file to share but it was too large (about 5 mb)How can I share a file larger than 4 mb here? I never did it before.

@sdmitch said: You just need to reverse the process and create the rounded part of the roof first then "slice off" the angled portion of the roof by intersecting the roof with a plane and deleting the unwanted portion. Thank You very much. It worked.

Thanks for your replies. I updated my drivers to the latest and so far I'm not experiencing those jitters since. I just installed it over the old one without deleting anything. This is a quote from the Nvidia site- "Q: Do I need to uninstall my older driver first? A: No. It used to be the case that an uninstall was first required. Today the recommended method is to overinstall the newer driver on top of your older driver. This will allow you to maintain any current NVIDIA Control Panel settings or profiles." I did that and all seems well. So yeah, if I experience anything wrong, I can easily revert back.

Thanks Rich for the explanation. Now I know what I'm looking at. I rarely see a version 8 model when I'm searching. Mostly 5,6,and 7. I usually just get the highest version on the list and so far I have no problems with any downloads.

Tried the sequence you suggest Misto 11, but still no luck. I understood the recommended youtube video... but when I go to 'intall KT materials' thru' the plugin - I'm taken to my KT directory & only have the option the select a file & open it (rather than the window sequence shown on video. I notice you're Windows XP - I'm Windows 7 - could this be another of 7's irritations?

When I do something similar, I always group the base of the building then the walls of the first floor in a separate group then again, the ceiling of it (which is then the floor of the next storey) into a separate group etc... After this you can put everything on a separate layer and create scenes to be able to work on everything conveniently. Instead of groups, you can of course use components (and have better control of what you are doing)

@numbthumb said: @mistro11 said: I would like to put in a bump map as well as make the floor look like someone buffed the @#%@ out of it. I'm not clear on how to achieve this using Sketchup's material editor You cannot create or apply bump maps in SU. You´ll need an external app for that. I´d suggest searching Kerkythea forums. See here for example: http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8465&view=previous&sid=e268c81b9be81de414ec1f49cb391dfe Thank you for the link. I actually got through with a youtube search but I missed that thread over at their forums. I managed to figure out the material editor in Kerkythea and got the floors I wanted. I didn't know I could right click some things to get at more options. I think I have it sorted now. I found myself reading and watching more tutorials than getting any work done and got impatient. Was just one of those things I skipped. Patience is a vurtue.

@box said: You'll probably find it is due to the position of the cursor. If your cursor is on something close it will zoom very fast but if it is on a point in the distance it will seem to do nothing. Wow you're right! I tried zooming with the cursor on a line and then on empty space. Empty space=very slow to no zoom. Thank you for clearing that up.

Once inside you can use the tool with the Eyes to "Look Around" while the camera stays in place. You just click and drag to look around.

Mistroll, I don't think it come in "clean" like in SketchUp, just minimal triangulation. The renderer at my office uses this workflow: we all model in SketchUp, she renders in 3ds. However, I don't see triangulation in 3ds as a problem if you're just going to render it, unless you want to see some sort of wireframe in your renderings.

I think I have it sorted. I selected one floor at a time (the bottom of each room) and did an offset. I then selected the middle sections and Push/pulled them up. I now have thick walls to work with.Thanks.

Ah, stupid me, yes, certainly PhotoMatch was an addition in v. 6 and I completely forgot. And yes, those specs are quite enough for SU.
