    • RE: SketchUp 2019 release

I hope Sketchup gets a good update next release. I'm becoming very concerned about the futures of my 2 favorite CG packages. Sketchup and Thea Render. We get great software with a great community and active developers then the developers sell out to some company who is clearly profit driven and kill the very things that grow the user base like the free version of SU is no longer available in the form it was and it seems we can now kiss free updates to Thea good bye as the new company is adopting the same Trimble business model. Companies should really take a look at how 3DSmax hooks their user base giving away free versions to students who later swear by the product. Why suppress the free versions and updates that would only bring in a lot more users of which many will eventually buy a pro license like I did?

But I accept what I have for now. I bought a pro license for version 14 and got v.15 during that same cycle. But ever since I been holding out on getting newer versions because I can basically do everything I need with what I have so far (except UV mapping) and the newer features just didn't grab my $100. The only reason I'm considering an update is so I can use the newer versions of Profile builder in a pro version but it's not that serious because i do have v17 free. So my attitude is, I still love and use Sketchup versions I have so far and even if we do not ever get another update, I will continue to use what I have as long as it works. I just hope this community continues to be active.

    • RE: Graphical Glitching

Thanks again everyone. Dave, I agree something did change but I always put on hardware acceleration. Right now I have possible RAM issues (may need to replace some sticks) but I can confirm it was the fast feedback causing the glitching. After turning it off, everything seems normal even at launch. No more black screen flashes. But I am curious if I would be missing out on anything without fast feedback? looks like a minor thing to me though.

Thanks kaas. Turning off fast feedback resolved the selection box lag issue. If I see anything else I will report here.

Have you tried changing the preference for hardware acceleration? Under Preferences / OpenGL.

Yes. I have it on Hardware acceleration.

Lately my copy of SU2015 pro seems unstable on the graphic side. When I launch, I get a black screen in the work area for 2 seconds and any time I drag to select, the box have some lag to it. Anyone know why this would happen? My GPU drivers are up to date.

Thanks Dave R. Now that you mentioned it, it could be an outdated extension. I been meaning to do some cleaning in that area. I will start there and see if the crashes stop.

    • Sketchup Pro 2015 Crash on Exit

For the past couple of months every time I close Sketchup 2015 it crashes. When I open SU I have to navigate to where my latest project instead of seeing it listed in the recently opened list. The good thing is I don't lose any progress as the files do keep the saved state. But I know this shouldn't be happening. Anyone know a fix for this?

Make sure your texture is square 1 : 1

      For documentation see : https://wrap-r.com/docs-wrapr-.html

Still not complete as I've more to add soon

Ah...my texture is 1:2. Sometimes I need the room. Any chance to support textures beyondn 1:1 dimensions in the future? Or is it because of the 1:0 space thing?

    • RE: Wrap-R for SketchUp

I just discovered this awesome looking plugin. I got the trial version and started playing with this. Usually when I'm making a game asset, I make the texture map first and adjust as I go along. I would usually do my UV mapping in Blender where I could move the islands to where I want them within the texture. But when I start WrapR, the texture I assigned in Sketchup does not show up in WrapR and the "Sketchup Texture" option is greyed out. How do I bring in my texture after launching WrapR from Sketchup?

BTW, the help button takes me to the home page and I don't see an obvious way to navigate to the user guide from there. Is there any more documentation for this that explain working with textures?

    • RE: Wish list for Sketchup 2018

The main thing I been waiting for is better UV mapping tools.....like many other 3D modeling programs have. When making game assets I have to port everything to Blender to finish. It would be great if we could stay in Sketchup to the end.

    • RE: Unconnected Faces will Not Separate

Nevermind I solved it. The ramp entrance level was not 100% flat with the rest of the floor. I used the push/pull tool to make sure all the surfaces was perfectly on the same level and it worked.

    • Unconnected Faces will Not Separate

I separated faces of a lobby floor from a ramp using the line tool. But even though the faces are not adjacent to each other, they are acting as though they're connected. I don't know why this is happening. This never happened to me before. Anyone know why this would happen? I want to put the carpet back at the top of the ramp without it surrounding on the outside.

What we are aiming at is a scenario where:

Instead of shifting around a relatively complex UVW mapping,
simply flip in/out unique material texture images onto group/component copies.

Ok, I see....If you have Sketch UV, you can save the UV of the 1st cone, apply new texture to the second one and load the UV.....

Another way is to combine both textures into one map and simply move the UV of the second cone to the desired area of the map....hope that helps.

    • RE: What if unwrapping sketchup models was kinda easy....

Wow, I totally missed this thread. I feel late. This really sounds like a great extension filling a void that's been my biggest gripe with SU for years. If I can afford it, I will be purchasing Wrap-R like I did other awesome plugins. But I also do wish this was a native tool in at least the pro version like many other major 3D packages. I never really appreciated the importance of UV unwrapping until I got into game asset creation. Also even with architecture rendering, through game creation practices, I learned how to cut down on texture bloat within a model.

Question....will it be easy to determine whether an island is within the 0-1 coordinates with this new plugin?

    • RE: 10 years with Sketchup

I discovered Sketchup back in 2005 (@Last V5) but quickly put it down because I was learning Maya at the time and was not satisfied with the texturing capabilities of SU. In those days I was not really deep into 3D modeling professionally but doing more traditional visual art (still do it today too).

6 years later in 2011 I got a commission to draw what a church would look like after a renovation at different angles. After a short debate on what medium I would work in, I dusted off my V5 Sketchup and found myself in these forums newbie section where I was pushed to try Version 8. It's been a new world for me ever since. I would credit everything I do in 3D today to my advancement in Sketchup....besides, the push/pull tool seduced me.

Hi, I'm an owner of Profile Builder and Artisan...great plugins!

I want to purchase Profile Builder 2 but on the web page it says SU 2016 is required. I have SU 2015 Pro. Do I need to upgrade to 2016 in order to use this plugin? I really hope not.

      EDIT:
I went back and read again. I see that 2.1 is in fact for 2016 only. Why??? I really want to buy this plugin. But now my workflow would be fragmented if I decided to get the make version of 2016. Is there any plans to make it 2015 compatible?

It was a difficult decision but, yes, 2.1 is for 2016 only. The reason is that 2.1 includes a new licensing system that could have been easily hacked with SU2015. SU2016 is more secure.

You can still buy version 2.0.6 on the Extension Warehouse (SU2015 compatible) but not for long. It will likely be replaced by 2.1.0 (2016 only) within days.

I understand that this may cause temporary frustration for some users and I am looking into potential workarounds. Thank you very much for your support of my plugins.

Well, I just purchased 2.1 anyway because I'm a big fan of Profile Builder and I can't imagine not having this in my arsenal. My biggest issue is that I would have to upgrade my SU Pro which I cannot afford right now. I would really like to have all my tools in pro version alongside this plugin. So now I have to make sure I don't need any pro specific tools when using this which is very hard to swallow. Please find a way to make it 2015 compatible. OR.....does 2.0.6 have the reverse assembly orientation capability? If so I will grab that as well...or would that have to be a separate order even though I bought 2.1?

Actually I cannot use this and go back to my 2015 pro setup for my projects as we are not allowed to save and load in previous versions. I'm a bit sad about this. The main reason I wanted 2.1 is so I can reverse the orientation of assemblies. It's a must have.
