I noticed that when downloading models from 3D Warehouse there are options for Sketchup versions 5,7 etc. and at the bottom a collada. Does it matter which one I choose for Sketchup 8 and what's the difference?

Older SU Versions can't be opened by newer versions. So if you download a v5 file with v8 then you can no longer open it in v5 if you save it v8. You can tell v8 to save as v6 or v7 but by default it saves as v8.

You may notice threads here that members upload as v8 and other members ask for v6 or v7 versions also.

Col Ada in just a different 3d file format like .obj or .3ds that is becoming a more robust generic 3d file format support by lots of 3d apps.

If you downloading from warehouse make sure you download a version that you can open. So if you're on v6 don't download v8 file.

Thanks Rich for the explanation. Now I know what I'm looking at.
I rarely see a version 8 model when I'm searching. Mostly 5,6,and 7. I usually just get the highest version on the list and so far I have no problems with any downloads.
