I can see how you might expect this - many office apps save printer settings as part of a document - but SketchUp does not do so. It just picks up the OS settings for the selected printer.

"Also, What is the usual set back of the baluster from the front of the rise and the face of the stair carriage?" Typically, the face of the bottom of the first baluster on a step aligns with the face of the riser and carriage below, as illustrated in the image below (from the WM Coffman Stair Co.). If the change in baluster spacing where the stairs transitions from straight to curved is bothersome to you, you might consider a closed stringer design instead. [image: VGA5_WMCoffman.jpg]

@cotty said: You can use the normal inferencing system to position a section cut (middle point, guide lines, ...) and you can fix a direction with the shift button ... Do you have an example image or model where it doesn't snap? Thanks. "Shift button"is the answer. I'd never tried using it while it moving the sec plane.

As for the scale block, it depends upon how it is made. You could add a dimension to it and then resize it. I've always made my own in SketchUp. Then it's treated like any other viewport. As for aligning viewports, you can use the alignment tools in the Arrange menu to align by the borders of the viewports. If you're actually trying to get the geometry from the sketchUp model aligned, move the little cross hair thing from the center of the viewport to some corner or edge or something. Then you can move that viewport so that point snaps to a corresponding point in the other viewport.

@calypsoart said: I have the SU export setting options set to "best quality," with anti-alising and Use View size. The "Use View size" setting exports a screenshot of your model exactly as it is visible on your computer screen. In most cases this is too coarse for printing on paper. For good-looking colour prints, you will need a resolution of about 150 - 300 pixels per inch for the print not to look too jaggy. The recipe to achieve the best print quality images exported from SketchUp is to first export a larger image than you need (about 2x is a good estimate) with antialiasing turned off (faster and more reliable), and then to resize the image in Photoshop (or your image editor of choice). This gives you much better looking lines than the antialiasing in SketchUp can produce. Anssi

@jim said: @ntxdave said: Again, my biggest complaint (if you want to call it that) is that you cannot specify where you want the shape drawn but as I said before, since it is placed in your model as a group it is easy to move. It would not be difficult to change the plugin so that the generated shape automatically attaches to the cursor for placement. The shapes would just need to be created as Components instead of Groups. Maybe make a feature request in the plugin thread or on github. JWM does not think he can do it (I posted in the thread you suggested). I would like the su_ version to be modified. I do not need the extra two features in jwm's version. The "native" one that works in 2015 would be fine for me...........

seems like she has 10.7 or lower which is not supported on v2015... if the hardware or circumstance forbids an OS update then SU v2014 or lower is the only option... in either case, contact Trimble citing OS incompatibility and ask for a 2014 pro license in exchange... she'll have 12 months to upgrade for free if needs be... john

A title block should be part of your template. Make a template for the size of the paper you're working with. If you need to print on different size sheets, make the template for the largest and print the exported PDF to the desired smaller size.

Thank you David, I accept what you say. I will try single columns. The dividers can be a waste of valuable space but when used with 2 columns wide they can be useful for grouping commands IMO. Kind regards, Andrew

The SketchUcation toolset's Plugins Manager displays your Plugins' files by name order, and its Extensions Manager lists the Extensions' by name order too... To order menus by the items' names is not practicable. The files adding them load in alphabetical order, by loaded folder, but the menu item's name will never follow the file's name... Back in SketchUp v5/6, when there were far fewer plugins, I set up a tool that did the restructuring of categorized plugins under plugins submenus, by renaming their files and editing their menu-loading code, but this is entirely unworkable given the explosion in the number of plugins available, and their complexity and the disproportionate efforts involved in updating any such setup, etc.

Plus smoothing the furniture rather than hiding the edges would work too. A simple example of the difference between soft and hidden. [image: bptC_SoftHide.JPG]

Some plugins are helper files used by others so you need to be a bit aware of what you are actually removing. If you use the uninstall feature of Sketchucation tools it renames the files to .rbx therefore disabling them. Like most things computer related it helps to keep things around until you are sure they aren't needed. You'll know at the next startup if anything really obvious needs to be reinstalled, but there may be other error that won't show until you actually try to use a plugin that needs a specific helper file. Eventually you could remove all .rbx files if you really need the space. Tig could give you much more info on this. I'd guess the other plugin folder has been created by a Renderer or some such plugin that installs from an exe file. What are the plugins in it? Easiest way to check if you can move the file to your main one is, Copy the files to the main plugins and rename the superfluous folder so it won't be recognised. Open SU and see if the three plugins function, if they do problem solved. The @Last Shapes plugin is very old and doesn't work with 2014, there is a second newer version available in the Pluginstore and the Extension warehouse. http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=jwm_shapes
