@tadema said: Hello agamemnus, I think you need to put a lot more work into the model, at the moment it's confusing. You state it's a research building but it has no doors or windows! no sense of scale so it looks like a big blue LEGO model. John It's to keep people in! Heh. Thanks for the input guys. I'll consider some doors/windows!

@renderiza said: @agamemnus said: I created some code to render a helicopter. Unfortunately, for some blasted reason, most of the scenes are not being rendered correctly. Help! Can you be more specific when you say "rendered correctly" because I am not 100% sure what you mean by this. Do you mean the scene style rendering options where not updated? Yes... all of the camera didn't update, so the image doesn't render as intended. Had to do "view.camera = pages.selected_page.camera" to get it to work correctly.

If you want to use more then one model - write script best way. I think you have only one model. Thzts why best way is make scenes manualy.

I think people have pretty good success with getting SU to run under WINE. I've never seen anyone try CentOS. Good luck!

First example is done by Fredoscale "Box scaling to target". You must do it one side at time. You must make a point to snap to for your one meter measurements in each direction (a meter square on the ground and on perhaps a guide vertically. Since one dimension is .6 to 1.0 and the rest are .9 to 1.0 you have to do each side. For the stairs Fredoscale could make it scale as well. It seems like these scenarios all depend on what the different parts need to do. And so a plugin can't fit to all situations. If I had a steps that needed to be larger, I would not want to change the dimension of the "lumber" parts unless I were accepting the parts would be out of scale, slightly.

What? No, I'm not saying that. The highlighted area should be two parts, but it didn't slice through. The lines are there, but it's still two separate areas!!! [image: NZd4_intersection.png] It doesn't matter if it's a solid or not. It still doesn't slice through. I've attached a simplified example. If I do intersect-with-model on the bump that hasn't been cut out (the same one in the picture), it won't split. Edit: I noticed that after splitting, there was a single polygon where the outline formed along the surface of the main object that was not cut . When I drew a line cutting it (the polygon), the bump shape separated immediately in two. I don't know why Dave didn't experience this: [image: aVyB_nocut.png] notasolid 2.skp

@leedeetee said: An interesting shape, that for sure. Doesn't much look like a building, although it would make an ace jelly mould. Have you thought about adding some textures to your facades? Yes, but I can't think of a good texture. Thanks for the great jelly mould idea. I'll find a Chinese jelly-mould manufacturer to make it!

Well, it was fine until I exported to obj. I got like 10 textures of the same original wood texture, and that don't fly. Trying to redo every side with manual repositioning... it's all a huge mess. Edit: Ok, I redid every side manually.. alt-copying didn't even work properly for IDENTICAL polygons! EG: The back-side of the wheels. I just cut out the wheel front and pasted it in in the back. Exported ok now: only 4 materials as I wanted. [image: IXN7_ahh4.png]

Guess go by the user's view angle to find the top left? I dunno. @rocorona said: Absolutely correct, TT. Anyway, it is also true that texture placement is mostly done in a inaccurate way. Is there a chance to have some numeric input, for scaling/skewing/rotating textures? Yup, would be nice. Something like an entity box, with automatic application. (without having to press <enter>)

Sails and masts more or less done (used curviloft for sails, very informative icons and easy to use!). Took some shortcuts... I duplicated and resized the main sail and beam to create the front sail and beam. No rope, either... it was tiring enough to make the sails, masts, and beams... Now I need to convert 17429 faces into perhaps 1700 faces at most. Edit: with the bigger sails, complete fantasy has (probably taken over). At current measurements, the main sail is 12.8m high and 16m long. The main mast is 20m high and starts at a width of .76m, ending (at the mast "cap") at .34m. The ship itself is 47.5m long. (not counting the front sail and masts) [image: QF6X_shipoverview.png] [image: cx6y_shipoverviewback.png] [image: tdAx_shipfromanglewithlines.png]

This is just my observation from personal use. If one were to regard the model environment as a stage scene with a camera in first person mode, it would become clear that the cursor, whether in zoom or orbit or select directs that camera where to look. Clicking on empty space confuses the camera function and its directives become random. I have noticed this while zoomed in tight and then activating orbit-- suddenly my scene sweeps far away from where I was. Or scrolling out can sometimes do the same thing. Bottom line. The camera needs definitive input or it behaves randomly.
