Awesome, I'm glad you found it. I felt bad not being able to work this one out, so I'm glad you were able to. Its frustrating when things don't work as they should. Good job Ken, Chris

I have attached a 2 scene model, the first has a complete sphere with 2 other objects poking into it. The second is the result of: Double clicking the sphere to edit it Going "Edit -> Intersect -> Intersect with model" Deleting the 2 boxes Deleteing the faces no longer needed Adding the lines that completed the internal faces sphere-tut.skp

I used to sometimes render with Carrara 3, an I recently installed v. 5 from a disk bundled with a magazine, but I really havent't had time to play with it. As I used it only for rendering, I found then that it was easiest for me to export the model from SU as a single object, and I just tried and found that the approach would probably work still. The properties of the materials are there still to be tweaked in the "Texture room" even if they are all contained within the same object. Anssi

Then there is the 'sandbox' way. Create your basic shape, remove all faces leaving the line work only, then select all and use the 'from contour' option. There will be some cleanup needed, but generally it should work just fine. I can't really take credit for Dagfinn's work on the model you uploaded (thank you Dagfinn), but I am glad it is working and was happy I could help earlier on. The error could have crept in if you adapted a model that has been scaled a few times, or something like that. If it is something simple enough, then it can be quicker just to do things from scratch, rather than hunting for ages to find the problem, although this time it might be useful to try and work it out. For learning about DC's I would recommend looking at google's examples of how to use various functions (they have some collections on the 3DWH) and just playing around to see how things work and what you can get them to do. That is how I learn things anyway, it might not suit everyone.

Did you make your resolution bigger or smaller? What if you reset it? If they appear, just undock them somewhere in the middle, resize again and start docking them back where they fit.

FF is the only serious choice, of course. There's some rendered examples of FF content here and here. There is another free resource at http://www.archibase.net/ but the quality is very variable and the ads are intensely annoying. It's mainly gdl stuff but they do tend to have 3ds versions. OK if you're not worried about poly count or reversed faces.

@jackson said: Yep, you can move it to SCF bug reports if you like. Done... There are always smaller diffe3rences between what the download link shows and the real file size but IMO a difference up to about 50 or even more percent should not count for "normal". And what if you are challenging the 10 Mb upload limit?

Yeah, I opened up the file and noticed right away that the green axis was pointing up. So you can either just keep the blue up and keep working on it, or select everything and rotate it all. Either way, glad its working now for you, Chris

Hi GTP, The best would be to group all your aquarium (once you deleted the top face) so that later you can't incidentally recreate it on one hand and also, when you fill it with what-nots, they won't stick to it. Select all the geometry of the aquarium > right click > choose "Make group" And welcome to the forums!

@dcauldwell said: I am currently trying to develop a workflow link from SU to CAD drawings for architectural work (small scale stuff - houses). So far I have worked out that the plans and sections can be exported from SU with a thickness applied to the section cut, thus eliminating the need for linetype adjustment later. I am currently using CAD to add dims and some shading to the SU import. That just leaves the actual detailed drawings and as I import these as 'standard' details (to be adjusted per project) this is quite simple. With discipline in the creation of SU model, so far this is working quite well. David Your response got me thinking, because one of the major issues of exporting a section cut aligned view from Sketchup are alle the single lines you end up with in the drafting program. Then I thought about Archicad and I think there is a nearly automatic solution for this problem: Since version 11 Archicad has intoduced a feature called "linework consolidation", that lets you transform all the 2d lines you get from a cad in single polilines. It allows you to transfer all of these lines on a single layer of your choice, change the colour of those lines and so on. This comes from the need to create more polished drafting from an autocad import, but now it occurred to me it would work nicely with a dwg file coming from SU as well. Will havo to try it out!
