This is amazing- just what I need to learn how to do. I looked at the Users guide but I am not finding how save the changes back to a SU file- I am guessing you save bak into the kmz file then open that? Still fiddling with it..

From what I have seen here, VRay is the superior product in regards to quality of photo real render. As a need it yesterday Architect, I find Renditioner Pro, fast, easy, and adequate. Btw, I do not need to compete with SOM for work.

Another way in Renditioner is to simply set the image size how you would like it. Open image controls and make the render 4000 x 800 pixels, for example, and it uses those dimensions calculating from the center of the viewport.

Start simple, create a rectangle, make it a component, "door" later you can replace it with any other component copy the door to make number required make all a component, then enter the component, make next set of doors a component but change the axis so that it is opposite to the parent do so until you reach last door, then in this case check to see if opposite if not then right click the axis when inside this door component and change build formulas as shown rotate about Z, opposite and reversed (90 x 2 = 180) x -1 I used the generic parent as the reference rather than component1 as suggested by Dave and others, etc, so easy to copy through. the rest are always opposite to component 2, so -parent!rotz works always check as you build, so see that it works... Then you can modify the door component. however its important you stay within the initial dimensions of the door boundary box. To increase its size, use scale tool on the whole (component1) So add the size changes to component 1, the children will follow, its not wise to have the children tell the parents what to do. Unless its necessary. Great help guys, I got them working now. This is a pretty good ap. considering how SU can barely handle 3D vegetation. I know xfrog can work but that still kills most computers. THanks again

One way to learn, is to tke the advice here, and make a sample scene of your model; couple of walls with a window, portion of roof, yard, driveway, and trees. Small to cut down render time. Set your render settings for speed, and do a bunch of quick changes. Work on one thing at a time, like the grass. Try different textures, scale it, rotate and recolor. At first, don't change many things at once, you won't know what is making the difference. In the hands of the right person, even the very basic stuff in SU will often do, but there are times you have to get better textures. Do this to get a feel, don't try for perfection, everything will change when rendering the big model. The glow around the trees may be a problem with the renderers alpha support. If so, you have to get better, or 3d trees. Take out the gray looking trees, they don't match the composition. For variety, scale, rotate, skew, combine, recolor, and flip the trees. And of course, you got to get shadows. A good rendering is as much about composition as it is about render materials. Try different angles and views. 2d components look best when viewed at eye level. If it doesn't look OK in SU, the render will not help. Often post processing makes a huge difference, still, its best to first depend on SU, then the renderers, and only if necessary a post processor. Oh, at first, plan to spend at least 4 time as much time as you might think you take.

Well, I wouldn't call the "old" behaviour a bug but maybe a feature everyone disliked Actually, at least inferencing works/ed in changed axis mode in SU 6 as well.

Yeah, Fredo is quite poetic. Fo "Tools on Surface" you have to enable "On Surface Operations" But that only makes it more interesting I think

I've just tried placing a simple model under the water, and it worked with some problems. First you have to place the model in sketchup well under the coordinates of the map you get from GE, it seems that the highest point in any underwater topography you import will always be 0 in sketchup. And to view the model in GE from an underwater perspective you have to turn the water surface off, so no cool pictures from below the seas for the sketchup fans, wich is disapointing. Hi Brettina, These dialogs sometimes get stuk behind (or even under) the main SU window. You can try to make the SU window smaller (don't "minimize to tray" though) and move it around the screen to see if it's behind. If you cannot find it, try the following instructions.

Also, if in SU 7 you go to File> Save as... you can save it in SU 6 format to make it sure that you (or any colleague / client still using SU 6) can open it. Apart fom dynamic components (which degrade gracefully into "normal" components in SU 6), everything will work properly.
