Yeah, it may depend on the rendering program perhaps. I downsized the pixel size (keeping the ratio the same) for my wood flooring for the bedroom render challenge over in the gallery. It ended up coming into Maxwell too large or small (don't recall) so I had to resize it in Maxwell. The workflow sounds a bit easier with maxwell if I understand you. SU just tells Maxwell what material to use so you can have totally different maps. The only reason you use the same image is so that it will translate the UV mapping properly. So I just downsize the map and use it in SU but that maxwell material that it corresponds to will have the full res version.

I know this is a very old thread by now, but I have found a way getting round these limits and exporting at any size you want. It is here in the Tutorial forum: "Exporting 2D graphics with NO size limit" http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=26527 I have also posted a second tutorial on exporting Alpha masks for your 2D exports. "Creating an Alpha mask of your model for 2D graphic export" http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=26530#p228664 Bon appetit! David Mac

ok, I got something working. 3 cars, each have their wheels rotating. One just rotates wheels. One also drives forwards and backwards. One opens and closes its doors. Check out the code, its pretty simple. All animation is being driven by a single OnClick for each car. Check out the video and download the model to see the DC values. Note, there is no sound in the video. Hope it helps, [flash=542,353:6a3bkcko]http://www.chrisfullmer.com/chrisfullmer/forums/3_cars_DC_demo.swf[/flash:6a3bkcko] Chris three DC cars.skp

@teezer said: If that happens again, turn on hidden geometry and the edges should show up... Not necessarily... Some times things can get messed up. I experienced this yesterday when I tried to make a plugin which converted all components and nested components to groups. A coding bug caused 'ghosted' geometry to appear. (Sang) without any lines and without any means of selecting it. When I tried to clear the scene by making a new model SU crashed on me. So when using plugins or importing other formats, basically when stuff is being generated, there is a possibility things get really messed up.

Hello and welcome. Although SU has only limited capabilities with texture positioning, you can still achieve some good results. Here is "all" the SU Guide tells us about texture positioning (you may be interested in the material somewhere at the bottom where it writes about wrapping and projecting). Note that SU will always allow to access the texture tools in the right click menu only on a single face so if you are working with curved surfaces, you may first turn on hidden geometry (View menu) to get a single facet or use a "dummy" plane that you apply the texture to and position it on and then sample it and apply it on the curved surface. See an example here. Pilou beat me - that's the projection method in Aidan's video. My example above is a wrapping method. Basically these two exist in SU.

"3dFace" is the autocad (and others) name for the entity described below. If you are talking about "3d" and "faces" in general, then the below is too specific. In my experience, a dxf 3d face (3-4 sides) is a closed polyline that imports as a SU surface. I think that even in the case when the 3d face's polyline is not closed, SU's import function will close it. Every 3d face consist of a polyline, but polylines are not necessarily 3d faces.

You don't want refractions. That only works for glass and transparent materials. As for reflections, there isn't a set rule for this . It all depends on the material you want to simulate. Got any specific example? Screenshots? In general, all materials got some kind of reflection, often it's a very glossy type. Adding a very glossy reflection can some times be enough to make it pop it little as it picks up a little bit more of the surrounding lights.

Just in case anybody else is having problems with this, I found out something else: Even if the Upload button is gray, after I've filled in all the boxes, I go back to the Title box, click in it and hit the return key. Presto, the Upload button turns black and the upload works. Tom

well all i really figured out is that faces, groups, and components all can be textured, but i would still like to be able to have a projected texture in a group or component!

Thanks for that Andrew. I can appreciate what you are saying about incremental updates. And clearly folders containing plugins, components, materials, etc are unaffected by updates. Thanks for the great work...always appreciated.

Fifo & Jim. Both your suggestions were very helpful regarding moving objects on the slanted surface. I was able to rotate the axis as well as slide it along the surface. Sliding didn't seem to work when I was using the Xray mode so I could see the hidden structure but with Xray turned off, did the job along with using construction lines for accuracy. Thank you all.
