Just got a SU auto update download, resulting in v 7.0.10247. Don't recall the previous number. Is this the previous release, or something new?

This is also the one I have. Released some time last month as a "maintenance release" for a couple of bug fixes.

Thanks, I think that is the third, at least second time it downloaded. Plus the first auto download that was the original release. Good thing it doesn't mess with my settings (at least I think it didn't ?-)

What is the best way to install SU updates?

I find I have version 7.0.8657. If I check for updates I see there is a newer version. I can of course download it. Is it the complete new version or just the updates?

Should it be installed in a new folder leaving the old version intact? I really don't want to mess up any of my settings, plugins etc. So many questions!

I did it a while ago, but if i remember correctly you just download the latest installer and it updates your install, leaving everything intact.

Thanks Remus. I downloaded the latest version and it did update my existing install without changing any settings...as it should be.

                    caddict,

You can install multiple simultaneous versions of SketchUp as long as the major version number is different. That is to say, SketchUp 6 and 7 can both be installed simultaneously, in separate folders.

However, if you download an update such as 7.0.10247, or in the future, 7.1, etc., that installer will replace the existing version of SketchUp 7 that is already on your machine. There is no way to do it differently.

We do not presently provide incremental or "patch" updates. Any time you download an updated version of SketchUp, you get the whole brand new installer. Although it takes more time to download, it's advantageous for you because it means you only ever have to keep one file around to do a complete reinstall and you don't have to worry about installing things in the proper order. It's also advantageous to us because managing patch updates is one of the most tedious and aggravating tasks in software engineering.

                    I hope that helps.

Thanks for that Andrew. I can appreciate what you are saying about incremental updates. And clearly folders containing plugins, components, materials, etc are unaffected by updates.

Thanks for the great work...always appreciated.
