@jagizzi said: Gaieus, I am on my Mac, which is new to me, so I don't know how to capture a window to post so I will have to save the sketchup file itself. (Would take that bit of knowledge too, if you knew how). Easy on my PC buy am learning the mac as i go. Thanks, jagizzi to do a screen capture on your mac you can use "command/shift/3" for a full screen capture, or "command/shift/4 " will bring up a set of gun sights to capture the area you highlight. I have always wanted to build one of these ovens for bread and pizza, so I will follow this closely.

Okay, the whole thing was just a side joke anyway. But say in "real life" when an architect makes $40-50 per hour and modifying a complex mesh through 3-4 hours, a $ 20 plugin which helps doing it within say half an hour (or even if one hour) is obviously a time/money saver. And maybe I would also need a car if I lived in the countryside and not just about 5 minutes walk for my regular corner bar (and less than a minute from the main square of my city).

@muchado said: Can one do this in a dynamic component? I wanted to created a "troughed slab" (also known as a "ribbed slab") by repeating a depression across a cuboid, but SU does not make the cut in the surface for the copies. Sorry, it appears that this has been answered before: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=23096 http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=21449 http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=18651 http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=17054 The problem appears to be that SU does not do this. However there appear to be at least one work-around that involves creating the positive volumes and then hiding the lines of the joins. I had thought about joining pieces together, but thought that I would be stuck with the edges, but using the trick of "hiding" the edges solves the problem.

Not textures, no. Only Face Me components. Though render engines like V-Ray has such features.

Thanks again Chris, much obliged. I was aware of being able to hide lines etc but on my original problem (which can be seen in image #2 and #3 on the 1st post) SketchUp created a new face at the top of the arch. Anyway, don't worry about it, problem solved, thanks again!

Thanks Chris and Jim. I didn't realise that it was a bug. I will try your idea Jim, sounds like a workaround. Thanks, CB

A 'helix' is simply a 3D curve - so like anything else it can be Scaled in plan to change its diameter or make it ellipsoidal and in its height to change its 'pitch'... You can taper it in its height when making it too. It's so quick to do remaking another helix is easy enough... Here's an example of a tapered helix of two different sizes and a link flat-arc quickly processed in EEbyRails to give a helical weirdness...[image: lgwd_Untitled.png]

Sorry TIG if I couldn't follow your line of thought. I was thinking like this: Assume that the user is drawing with the line tool. That's certainly a situation where drawing axes (and inference colors) are needed. So then the user would like to have an idea of the coordinate system. Have a quick look at 'a-a', then bail out by pushing Es... Eek. Escape also interrupts rubberband drawing. - Just to state an example of a potential conflict. But thanks for your nice contribution that I tried to improve.

You mention PC but not mfg. My Dell XPS still does not have "updated driver" but settings in link below will resolve the scramble if you are on similar system. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18218 Best, C

In hindsight I recommend using Offset rather than Scale - then you can fix it at 7"+ ?

Thanks again Guys. I applied a texture to the back of a face in the component where it is never seen, saved the component with the rest of the faces using the default material and now when I import it the material comes with it. If I now change the colour using Component options it works (although the hidden face always stays as the texture I applied directly to it). However I am still confused, because when I import the component it comes in showing the default material until I drop it in the model when it changes to the texture specified in the component options. With the original models I did (second sample above) they come in showing the texture specified correctly and they work perfectly when using the component options - AND - there are no hidden textures in them. Also - with the original models, if I change the colour in component options then re-save the component, when I then import that into a new model it comes in the correct colour and brings that texture with it (the original texture is gone, as expected) - but I did not place any hidden textures in the component before saving it. Very strange - but at least for the time being I have a solution (until I can work out what I may have done differently the in the original models).
