Solid, manifold, water-tight. No holes. No stray lines. No internal geometry. Here's a plugin to help identify problem areas: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=30504 And a new one that tries to fix solids: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=33471

PNG can be smaller than JPG. It all depends on the colourfulness of the image. With less, "pure" colours, png's are smaller but with more complex colour scenes/schemes (like photos), jpg's can be smaller. It all depends on what you export. If you export with image textures, I bet a jpg will be smaller. If you export in some monochrome, hidden line or even shaded (without textures), png might have the chance to be smaller.

The diffuse map is pretty nice. Won't necessarily work for hull texturing, but it would be a GORGEOUS building wall panel, and with permission, I think I will adopt it for that. @Rclub24: Yeah, that's actually the structural design path I follow for aerospace craft and such. Visual texture of the individual panels is where I've been having to rethink everything with an eye toward finding a balance between "Ooooh! That looks really kewl!!!" and "Realistic enough, but boring...." Good reminder though! Bolshoyeh Spasebaw, both of you! Cathryn

Is your display driver up to date? Does this happen with all models? Is this one located far (more than a kilometer or two) from the SU model origin point? Anssi

thanks to both of you for this... i had the component thing kind of figured out but i was trying to do too much at once... i can see now that you have to make each piece a component. Dave i am very interested in the cutting list and would love to know how to get that info Ken @dave r said: Hi Ken, I agree 100% with Jeff. For something like this you should draw each part that you would make in wood as a separate component. This will give you the ability to make modifications as needed. You'll also have the ability to create a cutting list if you want it. That may not be all that useful if you are only approximating the construction but it is possible to do, anyway.

Hey Pete, try on of these: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?uq=0247568597570164351511122&scoring=m They are obviously high poly but are componentized in a way that doesn't slow the model down much. They render well as well: [image: T6qF_cgworldpine.jpg]

After changing the active Section Cut you must also update the scene.

Did you try exactly with the same model? What video card do you have? What happens if you disable hardware acceleration under Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings (and are the two versions have the same settings there)? Oh, and welcome to SCF!

There is no post awaiting in the moderation queue. Neil, in that post about the Bezier spline plugin, I showed two ways of URL for SCF: http://forums.sketchucation.com/ and http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/ Please, do not use the latter one as it gives glitches. If you still cannot use the forums, find the email me link in my signature and I will try to help...

The "use model extents" checkbox on the Print dialog seems to have glitches. With small models (that fit on a page at 1:1 scale) it doesn't work at all. The most reliable way to print is to uncheck it, and to zoom in close so that what you see on screen matches what you want to print. Anssi

You could use the stamp tool from the sandbox to add your topo to the downloaded area. First unlock the downloaded terrain then either explode it or put your topo inside the terrain group. Use the stamp tool. Now you have little control over precise vertical placement but once you stamped the topo, it will create a surface with hard edges around so you can select it and use the move tool to adjust the final placement. Finally soften all the edges.

[image: 5271000242_61f816b1c4.jpg] This is possible and not difficult with native tools. Jim's suggestion is good. I did it with Follow Me. Although you don't have to, I started with a square and stretched it with the Move tool after getting the shape. I used an arc--could have increased the number of segments to make it smoother--for the profile. To avoid the point that would inevitably be created at the top of the arc, I put in a short horizontal line segment. [image: 5271011096_46961173f4.jpg] (click for a larger image) There is some unneeded geometry created by Follow Me so a quick Intersect and clean up followed by stretching it to length with Move and you're done.
