      Hello

I am trying to print a model 1:20. I have set to parallel projection view and a3 printing but my model is spread across two pages. If the program printed just the model, it would fit, but the program includes some blue space around the model which makes it unable to fit on one page.

how can i set the print area, or make it fit to one page while retaining the scale (i.e. not select fit to page).

      thanks

Try to Zoom extents first (Shift+Z) and start the print to scale from there. (Just a shot in the dark as I never print anything from SU...)
Also, beside parallel projection, you need to set one of the standard views but I guess you did that, too, otherwise print to scale would be greyed out...

Zoom Extents as Csaba says will help. The other thing you may need to do is adjust the proportions of the drawing window to close to your paper proportions. (approximately 1:1.414 for A3 paper) Most likely it will require making the drawing window narrower. One way to get the drawing window to the right propportions is to go through the steps of exporting an image file. Go to Options and make sure Use View Size is ticked. You'll see what the current view size is in pixels. Multiply the displayed height by 1.414. That will be your target value for the width. Drag the window until you get close to or slightly under the target.

And this way screw up your toolbars...

But seriously, yes, this would be the "finest" way although maybe (or rather hopefully) a Zoom extents will be enough.

However, your profile says you have the Pro version (dunno which one - would you not like to update your profile?). In this case, sending the file to LayOut would be the safest and easiest way to get a scaled print. There you can also export it as a vector/hybrid rendered pdf file which would then be a very good starting point of a fine print.

True, Csaba, it does screw up your toolbars although if you had V8 and saved the toolbar locations, you can get them back to the way they should be after dragging the window back to size.

Using LO does make better sense anyway.

The "use model extents" checkbox on the Print dialog seems to have glitches. With small models (that fit on a page at 1:1 scale) it doesn't work at all. The most reliable way to print is to uncheck it, and to zoom in close so that what you see on screen matches what you want to print.
