That's it. No reason why that shouldn't work.
The lack of metric (just can't if everything keeps coming in feet and inches) is the reason for this.
Since my plans are eventually in feet and inches I used to always refer to that. However in measuring buildings the notation becomes busy and sometimes gets confused. Typing feet and inches as input on a whole measure plan is also more tedious. Decimal inches is what I now use on my Disto and for marking, and laying out a plan, but if you can't check your work quickly, it adds another little task. I can always set the CAD to ft and in for dimensioning later.
When I work with someone else who insists on measuring Ft. and inches, like I will today, I have to reset the disto and do it all long hand.
