RE: Imported 3Ds has bulky lines surrounding everything?
Hi, bloppy lines, but they smooth when I zoom, how to I get the little dots to go away? This is just one small part of a massive house that I have to get some images from today, thank you very much...zoe

Imported 3Ds has bulky lines surrounding everything?
Hi,
I Stripped a Chief Architect model, then brought it in 3Ds.After exploding and softening edges, I notice the lines surrounding all the walls get bulkier and show a small blob at each intersection.
It's as though the line weights are to thick. How can I fix this so the lines look smooth and not bloppy?
The lines look the way I want them too when I zoom in, but once the zoom ends it's processes, they get thick again.
Thank you,

RE: Can't Get Windows to Cut Through My Walls, Imported 3Ds?
Thanks very much for a good answers once again.. I'll try, My Hole Punching Tool? Is it yours or is that what it's called--Ha.
Yes, I can cut out some of the layers before creating the 3Ds.
Cheers! zoe

Can't Get Windows to Cut Through My Walls, Imported 3Ds?
Hi,
I'm Importing a 3Ds House Model from Chief Architect, walls are made up of many layers, 6" thick. How do I cut component windows/doors all the way though my wall? I've also tried cutting out all but the interior and exterior surfaces, but still can't get components to cut through. And yes, I exploded everything. Is there anything else I need to do?I tried searching for this topic using terms like, windows, cut, thick walls and a host of others. Directing me to the correct search term would be great too.
Thank you very much for considering,

Walls??? Need a Better Wall Tool for asbuilts?
Hi,
I do a lot of asbuilts, wherein you walk into a building and start dimensioning and drawing. Dimensioning rooms in this way is actually quite different than drawing lines on a page and off-setting as seen in all the you tube videos.I need a wall tool that works.
I've tried using 1001 Bit Tools and Sketchup Bim and a couple of other plugins, but they are all pretty limited and relatively underdeveloped.
If anyone understands my asbuilt dimension dilemma and has some advice on how to create, dimension and edit walls efficiently, please let me know.
To clarify the difference:
Drawing lines an boxes over a known plan as shown on you tube is different because when you do asbuilts, you start at one end of a house, shoot a laser and start dimensioning one room at a time. Try it in your own house. It takes a good wall tool that allows editing and dimensioning, fast cutting, nudging and re-editing. It's more than most of these wall tools can handle.Thank you,

RE: Copy
Gai! You are most awesome. I assumed I needed to adjust my approach and had imagined either a group or component. I had seen a video on the difference between the two, but your description makes it clear how to use components efficiently. Got it. Thanks very much.
Although I'm a newbie using SU as a productive tool, I've played with it over the years and have been developing designs with Chief Architect--a 3D program for the past 12yrs. I've now decided to learn SU and Revit--at the same time, because I'm tired of using a 2nd rate 3D Architectural program.
I catching on to the SU basics, but because I'm production oriented, I'm yearning for best methodology. I'm combing around for all the videos I can to catch-up, but sometimes I don't know how to define what I'm looking for.
Thanks for clarifying, I really appreciate it. Zowie

RE: Copy
I don't really know yet what to call all the parts by yet... Lets say I make a table extruding legs from a surface. If I want to then move a leg to the center of the table, I don't know the easiest way to separate the leg from the surface of the table I extruded it from. I shift selected each side of the leg and made it a group, that seemed to work. If I had triple clicked on the leg, it would have highlighted everything connected. Is there a faster way to select shapes that I extrude from a surface? Thank you very much for taking the time. Zowie

RE: Copy
Thanks for the welcoming Gai, good to find you. Ultimately I shift clicked on the sufaces of each thing I needed to be unique and grouped them. I was thinking there was a faster way, but perhaps I need to build it differently so I don't get so many sticky things. I know this isn't very clear, I will probably find my answer as I watch more videos and gain better build methodology. Cheers! zowie

Copy
Hi,
When I make a thing with 3 components and triple click on one of them, they all highlight. What's the best way to separate them at this stage---the stage where I've already drawn a complex thing that I would like to separate:) Thank you, zowie PS. If you know of a video or instruction page that covers this well, perhaps directing me there would be faster than explaining. Thanks again.
