    • RE: Dwg mesh export from SU

test render.jpgAh, got it! (I did say it's been a few years since I trod forum boards ;o))

So the image shows a model (by Alan Fraser @ FormFonts) imported into my Cad program and rendered (quickly!).

The left image is the direct dwg import from SU, the middle and right models show the tinkering with settings from the fbx conversion. As you can see there is some smoothing occuring in the transfer, but not enough to make the model look any good!

      Anyone else have any suggestions?

Hmmm, it's better but still not there ... haven't got a clue how to attach an image to show you ...

Basically the fbx convertor will only export to dxf. The resulting model in Caddie is then polyfacemesh which is great, and it has some smoothing, but not enough! I'd love to show you an image of what happens.

Thanks again for the help thus far.

      TIG

Thanks, for the heads up on that ... am currently downloading the new version of 8, so will try it in a minute or two.

      Fingers crossed!

      Thanks for the response.

My cad program won't import these other file types and I haven't got any programs that import these types either! so I guess I'm a bit stuck?

    • Dwg mesh export from SU

      Hi Guys

Some of you may remember me from the old @Last forum days ... it's been a good few years since I trod any forums!

I have a small problem with importing my models into my CAD program (Caddie). I can import a dwg mesh into Caddie with no problem, but if I want to render a piece of furniture for example it looks rubbish because the faces come in as separate faces and unsmoothed.

In Caddie we have the ability to make a smooth polyfacemesh. On the surface this sounds great, but it's not very reliable and has a tendancy to miss some of the faces making 'holey' meshes. Have done a bit of digging on the web and found an SU plugin made by Sycode which will export a polyface mesh from SU to DWG. I tried it yesterday after parting with some cash and whilst it does make a polyfacemesh it doesn't smooth the mesh!

Have any of you guys got any tips for how I can achieve this, relatively simple, request?

      Many thanks
