Sorry TIG. I am working with SketchUp 8 under Windows XP. Your Tools Collection now appears under the Tools Menu. I tried it and it works great. The component recieves shaduw too. What I do not understand is how to let the component face the camera and to project shadow. EDIT: That problem has been solved too. Thanks, Rob

Hello Garystan. When you say it won't cut an opening, do you mean that it won't cut an opening period, or that it is cutting an opening in only one face of the wall? SU components are limited in that they can cut an opening in only one surface. But there is a work-around. Can you post your SU model/window component.

@ntxdave said: @tk0001 said: Dave, I think the technique I used here would work well for you, as long as the views are relatively close to the camera. The further you pull away, the more the dark edges jumble up the background "unhighlighted" information. The model I'm working on is of a facility that is rather large, so I want to try to dampen the background stuff as much as possible. What I really wanted to do was replicate the view SketchUp gives when you double click on a group, but with transparency in the surrounding information. I'm close. Hopefully I can get there. Yes, it probably would however, that means all of my groups would have to be duplicated plus there is the camera distance issue. The car wash runs anywhere from 135' to 155' long. Therefore, the lines could be an issue. My other point is that everything is centered around presenting in a paper driven environment (which I fully understand since a one of the primary uses is for the builders and etc.). However, today's environment also needs to be a little more multimedia focused as well. As you described about the monitor, we also present our proposed layouts from time to time with touch screen monitors. One of my dreams would be somewhat similar to what you were describing/wanting. It would be really neat if I could bring up one of my models/layouts, double click on a piece of equipment (component/group) and have it highlighted or the rest of the equipment hidden (like double-clicking on a group). I have looked at some presentation tools that support 3D models but they do not give me the capability to "cycle through" the various pieces of equipment in my model/layout. Guess I am just living in a dream world Wish I was a good enough coder to go off and develop something on my own. Good luck in your pursuit, Dave. Hopefully an adequate solution will be presented in this thread one of these days. FYI, to give you some perspective, if you refer to the "Highlighted" image above, the outside dimension of the blue highlighted equipment is about 300'.

Something like this Separate the Profile (welded) for a better easy selection of the segments! Select the profil Select the surface (click twice on the middle of the surfaces - zoom it) Click Twice on the empty Space And curiously prefere an horizontal "profil"! (so just a rotation from my previous post! Thickness will follow the skin! [image: QH30_imago.jpg]

@3bucktruck said: Yes, it was 16GB, rather than 16MB. "I remember when 1MB RAM was $40." Back in the day when a GUI and a WYSIWYG word processor could run like a champ on a machine with 4M RAM, and both could install from about a dozen 1.44M floppies? It's downright vile how many apps now take 1000x as much in the way of resources to do the same task with only a few useful new features.

The best thing to do is install the Sketchucation Plugin store which you can do without even knowing where the plugin folder is. Download it from the link at the top of the page and install it using Window/Preferences/Install Extension Then once you have that you can download all your plugins fresh and updated. There is even an addon to the plugin tool (easily auto installed via the tool itself) that will open your plugin folder for you. The other main option is to use the Extensions Warehouse which you will find within Sketchup, Window/Extension Warehouse. Once you get going with those any manual installs you might want to do you can do by clicking the Open Plugins Folder from the Sketchucation submenu. It is strongly recommended that you install new plugins rather than copying your old ones across.

@rudbeckia You can try with JoinPushPull, Vector mode with the option Project to plane, as shown here. Otherwise, enclose the terrain in a big box and Intersect / cleanup Fredo

SketchUp will baulk at making an edge < 1/1000th inch. It will consider the two points that are needed to make it to be coincident ! 0.5mm is about the limit. 1mm is safer. Any operations like a Circle or FollowMe etc which try to create very tiny edges will fail because of this 'limit'. Hence the Scale up 'trick'... These kinds of tiny edges can exist [e.g. when you Scale down afterwards] - but they cannot be created.

If you are talking about Fredo6's Bezier Spline it is a very complex plugin and can do many things. You may want to look at the tutorials for it. You can certainly add as many control points as you want. Even a simple double click on the orange line will add another point. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=100509#p100509

How about doing what I did and make a keyboard shortcut. I thought that only deleted guides... I didn't know construction points were "guides", thought that was for construction guide lines only. Nice to know.
