Ah good! At least that saves you from shuffling disk space around, but to use your plugins you cannot launch SketchUp via SKP on another drive until the fix is out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Is this for visuals or production? If you're trying to make a seat for a tool I think Dave's process would work great. For fun, you might try an app like this http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?319906-Turn-your-Android-Phone-into-a-3D-scanner-with-this-app on your phone to get the geometry.

Hello Kenny, just checking if you had already worked out your problem. I'm in the same need for a way of importing this new 3D imagery into Sketchup (or any other CAD software) to work with it. I'm a PhD student working with augmented reality applications, and this would be a great thing to work with. Please let me know if Google had made this available.

Further advice well received. I will also look for the Purge plug in. I saw a post below mine that was griping about SU. Every program has its limits no matter the dollar assigned to it. Frankly after 5 years and the need for simplicity in 3D drawing I think SU has really been a great addition for the amateur world. Especially when Sketucation can come through with pleasant down to earth, straight to detail, advice like what I have just experienced. I did not mean to start anything new here. I merely mean to again (and in another way) thank those people that so enjoy the program that they are willing to offer free advice. Fords are Fords. Fords simply just don't come with Rolls Royce interiors. But, you can still have a nice ride through the countryside while in a Ford!

It really depends on what you are exporting. I never found a single fit-all solution when porting geometry from one application to another. It depend on what is important for you, model structure, filesize, material and UV mapping. Various application will treat this different depending on their own internal data structure. But I usually start with DAE as it's a newer format, where as OBJ is much older and produse problems if your meshes has more than 32.000 vertices.

If your 'cut' is through tiny geometry (which result in edges <1/1000" long), then there'll probably be problems... What are you cutting ? Very finely faceted surfaces, branches, leaves etc will cause issues... More details = more advice...

I wanted to put a big thank you to everyone again. This is not a drawing to true dimension of the lower manifold for my engine project, but rather a conceptual rendering. My core block and heads are still on the boat and I am too impatient to wait for them to arrive to measure and go to that detail with the design. But, this was an EXCELLENT instructional project to achieve my goals for the design. I still need to add the injectors and design the plenum for the proper volume and blower mounting, but that part is easy compared to the runners! I think Chris's tools have moved on from those old posts... His ColorBySlope tool colors facets according to their 'angle'. In his Plugins subfolder's ..._data.rb near the end you can see how the faces are processed and their angle is calculated as 'segment' [as an integer]. The array of materials [matarray] is inspected and the material number corresponding to the 'segment' is assigned to the facet... If you setup 90 colors then for each degree of slope you get a correspondingly colored material on the face... With just 9 colors you get a 10 degree range of slope between flat and vertical. So for example - set 'low' to green [0,255,0] and high to 'red' [255,0,0] Then the steeper the slope the redder it gets ? The flatter the slope the greener it gets ?? Not all colors will get used - r.g. if the majority are quite flat it's predominantly greens as there are no steep red parts ! Hi Frank, Open the Materials window and click on the Details menu icon on the right edge of the window. Select Open or Create... Navigate to the folder containing the materials you're after and choose Open. Go to the Details menu again and click 'Add to favorites.' That ought to take care of it.

D Bur Projection works in SU2014. I downloaded it from his library, changed the extension from .zip to .rbz and used Install Extension to install it. Quit and restart SketchUp to get it to load completely and enable its toolbar in View>Toolbars.

@ John. Thanks for the suggestions I do go into panic mode when I see code. The suggestions are appreciated and would have been tried but... @ Dave, "Reset Workspace" in preferences seems to have cleared it for now and was simple to implement. I was also relieved to find my custom toolbar remained intact. Thank you both. Problem fixed.
