ok, if any ones interested, I can't find a native way of capturing, only the SU window and the current cursor, so I used the QuickTime movie and did screen grabs from it... [image: DTCf_push-pull.png] [image: bMzV_circle.png] [image: 9VwT_finale.png] my conclusions, is that it's not doable directly with native tools, but a qt movie and then a screen grab from that using grab, screencapture or other is easier... john

Take a look at this thread. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18%26amp;t=723#p4177 Good place to start. Everyone seems to have their own way of doing it. You can also use Inkscape to convert PDF to a DXF file which you can import and work on directly

@unknownuser said: Will I still be able to texture an object correctly with all of the triangulated faces?? Why not it's the general base of any render! @unknownuser said: in Rhino save as DWG (Volumes) Import in SU -> Solid Groups If that works, that is more simple!

@jql said: Might sound funny though so if you don't really understand the objective try it any other way but just remember this topic further down the road. Then you will hear my voice saying "I told you so!" It DOES sound rather odd, not gonna lie lol But, if you mean starting with the tracing the rooms from the inside, then I think I sort of understand the workflow you're referring to. I have seen some tutorials where they start drawing rectangles on top of a plan, but they did include walls. Either way, I'm going to try it and see how it goes. Thanks a lot.

I've solved it. If you setup an dummy account, license sketchup, and then copy the ~/Library/Application Support/sketchup folder to the system default user folder, any new account comes up with sketchup licensed.

@dave r said: My advice would be to skip the plugins for now. Get used to the inferencing and you won't need grids. You know when you're drawing or moving on axis by the color of the trailing line. Also make sure you're orbiting around as needed. Remember you're doing sculpture, not painting. Also, when you see the trailing line hold down the shift key and that will lock the axis in as you draw. Jerry

What sort of animation do you want ? http://vimeo.com/802540 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ViozCgD-b8 Else Lumion or Lumen RT are more advanced but some pricey! So Blender is the must for no bucks!

Approach it another way... Make a solid component 'lump' that has the overall form, but without any 'holes'. Then within another component add smaller solid groups/components that form the removal 'holes' - use Xray mode and section-planes to see what you are doing 'inside'. Take care not to overlap or touch these parts, as that will compromise its future 'solidity'. When you are happy with the arrangement explode that container's contents, it should then report as a 'solid' in Entity Info. Then, use the Solid Tools to subtract that from the first 'lump'. You now have the 'framework' as a new solid group... You'll probably need to orient the faces so they are all 'outwards' looking... Save as you go - using components allow you to reuse what was done before, without deep undo's...

BUT if you have edited and painted faces inside an imported component-definition... and then you reload that definition the earlier 'unpainted' version is reimported, and so your changes are lost ??? Please explain it more clearly... or reconsider your workflow

You probably need to get another post under your belt before attaching the file but then below the message window there's a tab labelled Upload Attachment. It should make sense when you look at it.

Re-import the image as "Use as texture" and then you can position/scale the image. It will only be painted onto the face, so wherever the face ends, it'll end too.
