@jql said: I prefered the previous numbering and, if they missed the point with 2013 wich should have been 9, then I believe this would be Sketchup 10. Imagine: Sketchup X! Sketchup X with the trimble logo in black! Pretty stylish if you'd ask me! Maybe the X could be the move icon... that's an apple thing https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/ https://www.apple.com/osx/ pretty sure 'X' is out of the name game pool

pcmoor, it's a little clunky, but it works. I'm trying to implement a drag and drop parent component, so I have to drag the wrapped child component into the open parent component, and explode the wrapper on the child and it works. Is this a bug or are the DC's designed to overwrite formulas?

Thanks again for the help guys, much appreciated. SU should really but an Anti Liasing setting on the Mac version, so users don't have to hack at it in the Ruby Console.

Would it be possible for people to post their templates or layer structures on here for comparison? It would be really interesting to see what different people do.

It may be a nice solution but I think it's not a good start for a beginner to use DC in this case.

Also use separate components to contain the 'parts' - this helps avoid overlaid geometry sticking together where you don't want it to - e.g. in subsequent Moves etc...

I haven't seen it but then I keep all of my SU windows and toolbar on one screen and save the other one for other applications. I've heard of it when a second monitor has been used but then isn't.

A DWF file is a bit like an 'AutoCAD PDF' file, a format that allows others to view, review, or print design information – without these people needing to know AutoCAD or other design software, so no good in SU. I can only suggest saving the drawing as an earlier dxf or dwg format such as 2006 or Release 14 from within AutoCAD.

In addition to John's excellent advice, use Install Extension under Preferences>Extensions in the SketchUp menu (left of File) to install the Sketchucation Plugin Store after you've downloaded it to your computer. Then, as he says use the Sketchucation Plugin Store or Extension Warehouse to automatically install plugins. And for what it's worth, you wouldn't have the Google/SketchUp 8/ directory if you only have SU2014 installed.

Since I only got one comment about the product, I thought I would post my own review. Remember, I am not a SU power house so my views may be tainted. I like Spread3D and think it is a good product. The price is certainly affordable. The "Pro" version is only $5/month. There is a free version but your presentations are only viewable for 24hours. Strengths Easy to learn - The UI for Spread3D makes it very easy to learn. There are a number of tutorials that seem to cover all of the capabilities pretty thoroughly. Play/Autoplay - Spread3D allows you to play/autoplay your presentation so that it is good for a kiosk type of environment or if you want to display your presentation in an unattended mode. There are settings for the slide duration and transition speeds. * Hierarchy - Spread3D gives you full access to the hierarchy in your model that can be manipulated at the slide level. Thus you can control the visibility or some limited animation of a group or component in he model at the slide level. Certainly strengthens the concept of using groups and components in your model in SU.* Links to external documents and videos - While I did have not yet used this feature, Spread3D allows you to connect to other documents and videos outside your model. You can also create links to external web sites. * Comments - Again, I have not used this feature (but I did look at it) that provides the capability to allow others to add comments about your model or presentation.* Rotate/Zoom/Pan/Measurements - You can add buttons to a slide that will allow the user to rotate, zoom, pan and even use a ruler on the slide. This again, is controllable at the slide level.* Auto Rotate- You can create a slide that will automatically rotate when the slide is viewed. Weaknesses Only One Model per Presentation - For me one of the biggest weaknesses it that you can only have one SU fie/model in a presentation. Therefore, if you want to have multiple models included in a presentation you must combine them into a single SU file and scene (you cannot export multiple SU scenes into a single presentation. If you combine models into a single file, you can overcome this limitation somewhat by using the hierarchy to control what is visible on the slide but this could get messy in a hurry* Fonts & Text display - Currently there is a limited set of fonts that can be used in a Spread3D presentation. There are also some limitations on how the text is controlled on the slide (how it appears, color and etc.). However, I have been told that this is being addressed in a future release (no timing on the update). One interesting thing I did discover though is the ability to create a scrolling list/text box.* Performance in IE - One of my presentations would never load in IE. All of my presentation did run smoothly in Chrome (I have only tested with IE 11 and Chrome). Since most of our clients use IE, this could be a problem in making our presentations available via our web site. For a show/convention we can make sure the machines being used have Chrome installed.* No Touch Screen Support - While this is not a show stopper, it is preferred for a show/convention so that the presentations can be used in a kiosk type of environment without having to have a mouse connected. Bottom Line Bottom line is that this is a good product that is VERY reasonably priced. It has a lot of good basic features and I have no problem recommending it. Just be aware of the one SU file limitation and you should be able to learn/use it in a very short time. The documentation is very adequate to get you going quickly.

This will not be a monologue! I took a look at cl3ver from time to time and it has the features I would require for an interactive presentation. The thing is I almost never need to make an interactive presentation. If I would I'd try this for sure. Thanks for your review, João

If you want to read a few more posts related to the subject, go to the advanced search feature, type Coincident as the keyword and Tig as the author. This should give you a couple of pages of posts talking about the limitations of small geometry in Sketchup.

@krisidious said: If you're doing it in order to hide them more quickly, you can always use layers. You've got a good point. If you wear hat, though... Using layers to control visibility is better than Hide. Use Hide for temporarily getting things out of the way. Also, if you haven't done so, give the Outliner a thorough look and think about what it is showing you. Don't make the newbie mistake of making a group, drawing some more edges and faces, selecting them along with the group and making another group.

@syburn said: Wow, There are some impressive sofa renderings from the Magician of a guy called Alvis. But I love all these ebooks that are available these days. Will these ebooks show me similar ways to make tufted sofas like Alvis? http://sketchucation.com/shop/books/intermediate/158-how-to-model-a-french-leather-armchair This book is by Alvis. So maybe.
