Sounds to me like the component might be glued to the mesh. Right click on the component, unglue.

@morgancalorgan said: For some reason downloading objects from the warehouse and adding text has stopped working for me. When I open old files it works, if i start a new file it works, but once i create a building it stops working. Any ideas? Ive tried it twice I also just tried deleting sketchup and reinstalling it and even with creating new documents it does not work

This might be a good suggestion to post on the SU wish list. For the stuff I do, a lot of my models end up in a printed 2D format, and I suspect this would be the case for many of us (especially architects) so it would make sense to have print quality 2D images instead of the jagged line stuff we have currently.

Using "Edit Component" you "open" the component, modify the circle, then "close" the component.

Thanks Mike for sharing, It's a Awesome product with great price!! I like the 3D result just as same as the 2D Printer, full-color 3D printer is good. I think it's time to pick one up to my studio, I like colour object more than single colour.

Textures are embedded in the model but you have a couple options. If you select an image editing app under Preferences > Applications, then you can right-click the material in the Material Browser and open it in your selected app right from SketchUp. You could also right-click the material in the Material browser and select "Export Texture Image", and then edit it in an external app, then apply the editor material.

Right click your dynamic component, and select "Save as", it'll save like a sketchup model, but when you import, it'll be dynamic. Likewise, if you try to open that file like a regular model, it'll be in pieces and not a component. But you probably only plan to ever import your components anyways.

Thanks to all for your assistance. Had to do a design work around due to time constraints. Will have a play with all suggestions when I get time. Interesting technique, Dave, Never would have thought of that! Cheers

@alastair said: Hi, Hope somebody can help. .......I do believe that the imported drawing was maybe corrupt.... Working with the imported dwg could mean that you modeled far from SketchUp's origin, as mentioned by Box. Import without preserving the drawings origin. This puts it right where SketchUp's origin is. Also get rid of guides. Having several in your model can also be your "orbit -> vanishing model"- problem. And once you do have your model on screen as desired, do save that scene. Hitting that scene tab brings your model back if it gets lost again.

ThomThom's CleanUp will do it. Get it via the Sketchucation Plugin Store or Extension Warehouse. You should be installing fresh copies of plugins with SU2014 and not trying to use plugins you have installed for SU8. This has been covered ad nauseam here on the forum and elsewhere.

Couldn't agree more... Specially if you're talking about BIM plugins! They are fast at modeling things that are not really how they are going to be built. I tell you how I feel: The best plugins around are the line tool, pushpull, the group and component, hole cutting components and all the abstract geometry plugins, like joint push pull, fredo scale, curviloft... Then there are those that really really make a difference now and then Section Cut Face being the top one along with edge tools divide face and inspect (I have high hopes on Skalp, but suspect it will make me model differently... I'll take a look at it when there's a trial). Nowadays you can't live without a render plugin too so I'd recommend Thea to everyone. All the other plugins facilitate your life so much you wouldn't consider living without them, but I must admit that every new install of sketchup, narrows my plugin list more and more, and I use more and more the native tools. The only ones that make me run away are the BIM kind of plugins. They make you design their way, not your way, but that's fair though, because for that you have Sketchup already!

Thanks kaas and Lz - I didn't know you could apply multiple textures... that's encouraging to know. Cheers Shawn
