Or you can just do it with the native Paint Bucket tool. No plugin required. Set the edge color to By Material. [image: 2yoC_Screenshot-6_5_20159_27_55PM.png]

That is a matter to speak with Trimble. There are network licences available wich do what Tig describes but I guess they would be willing to negotiate with you... (I know I would...)

Hi Goggin, hi folks. Make sure that your lines are not too far from the axes origin. Just ideas.

@pbacot said: This sounds a little like ThomThom's Edge Tools. That's if "extended to its boundaries" means the boundaries of the face. I always have that icon "Split faces into multiple pieces" in my basic toolbar. pbacote understood perfectly what I was talking about, thank you. I have this set on a shortcut and use it so often I forget its not part of native SU. Thanks again for being my memory bank and thanks to ThomThom.

So I just tried this: Component name given to library: ~!@#$%^&*()_+-=/*{}[]|\:";'<>?,/ Component name accepted by library: ~!@_$%_()-___{}_______'_____ Therefore, these were converted to underscores: ^&_+=/[]|:";<>?,/ Tried saving a skp file as: ~!@#$%^&*()_+-=/*{}[]|\:";'<>?,/ Result: "invalid file name" Tried saving a skp file as: ~!@_$%_()-___{}_______'_____ Result: ~!@_$%_()-___{}_______'_____ Conclusion: I am bummed-out about losing & and/or + in my component names. Oh well.

Yours is great!

I make section cutfaces, Tig's plugin I believe.... I use them in a few ways. I use them to block the view of the empty cavities of the structure in various views. I use them for Skalp and other SU hatch plugins. I use them via copy/paste into Layout to convert them into hatches. I leave them visible in elevations and floor plans so as to use them as references for section marks. Here's my architectural symbols scrapbook for layout. It has a large section symbol. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40%26amp;t=49829 Here is Tig's Interior Elevation Symbol and View plugin. Perhaps we might be able to convince him to create a similar section symbol plugin. http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=ElevTag

New to Sketchucation and I cannot see how to raise a new post so I hope this presses the right buttons. I have recently added Sketchphysics to my SU. I've found some basic tutorials but I have hit a brick wall naming controllers. The box is blue and whenever I try and enter a name I get an error message. I have seen a post that talks of entering a name between the quotes but this did not work either. I'm trying to get on top of Sketchyphysics but so I can passs on the skills to my design students so a tad frustrated. Is there a good potted tutorial?

Thanks for your reply. Windows 8.1, yeah it is 64bit with just the basic sketchup tool set. I won't be running an embedded renderer but I will be sketching structures at a scale of 1:200 with some fine detail say at 2:1. If this matters

Yes. This was announced months ago. 31 May was the last day. You'll need to upgrade at least to SU2014 to have access to web-based services such as Get Location and the 3D Warehouse. See: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000177 It's not a bug so I moved your post.

xi21lipa A trick I use is to [hide] a face or faces (group etc) to edit inside/behind etc. Sort of peeling back an orange to get at the goodies inside. One can hide a number of objects/faces etc and then either [unhide] all at one time or enter CTL/z to reveal one at a time. I set keystrokes [H] to hide and [U] to unhide. Hope this works for you. dtr

While it is possible to rotate the unfolded segment of your apply around and you should learn to use the Rotate tool so you can do that, it would be easier to set up your model to make it easier when you get to that stage. First, fix the axes. You've got them balled up. Right click on the origin and choose Reset. I then moved your apple to be centered over the origin and rotated the hole thing about the center (origin) so a side crosses the green axis and another crosses the red. [image: lNIi_Screenshot-6_1_20156_10_17PM.png] Then I selected one segment of the apple and copied it to the right. Notice I copied the segment that crosses the green axis. For this example I made another copy to unfold although I wouldn't do that for myself. That unfolded version is sloped up at an angle matching the top inside face (next to the core) For the third, rotated copy, I selected all of the flattened geometry, got the Rotate Tool and rotated it down to parallel with the green axis. To get the orientation of the Rotate Tool to be correct, I positioned the cursor on the horizontal edge at the near end of the shape, clicked and held the left mouse button and dragged the cursor along the edge a bit. Then I released and ran the Rotate tool as normal. [image: GFv5_applefinal.png]
