Profile Builder 2 will help sort that type of thing out, and it can do much more.

Thanks, I have had a look at the components but they do not have what I would consider small parts. It's still a bit of a mystery.

Erase the edge and that hidden plane should go away.

A "surface border" is a loop of edges that create a hole from the exterior to the interior of the object. A SketchUp solid must be an air-tight surface enclosing a volume. It can't be air-tight with a hole! Such holes also create a place where the model has an infinitely thin surface exposed, which is a mathematical abstraction that can't exist in reality. The reason Solid Inspector doesn't fix these is that it can't guess your intent. The fix requires somehow closing up the hole, but there are almost always multiple ways to do so. So, click the surface borders part of the SI window to see what it highlights and then draw additional geometry as needed to close the hole. "Internal face edges" means pretty much what it says. There are faces with edges protruding into the interior of the object. SI can often fix these, so try clicking the "fix all" button and see what happens.

Yes. The Save_As... option will save back as far as version 3. Use the drop-down list.

Excellent thanks for your help. I also figured I could get rid of the background with an alpha channel in photoshop, but your way easier. Thanks Nicola

the difference between my examples (hide.skp) and your model (save.skp) is the parent is a component in mine whereas yours is a group. It appears groups can't pass down a value, but rather they need to reference the parent.

DCs have no awareness of the Model Units, so you have to force it into using what units you want. DCs always default to inches unless told otherwise...

Discovered that if I export as a 2D graphic (dwg) and then import that, it has got rid of all the rubbish. All of the layer controls have gone, but I don't need those anyway. This method has the added bonus of truly flattening the file as well.

What if you use intersect faces with model? Rightclick your model's geometry even at different heights and a plane or surface or any other geometry that intersects it and rightclick on any of the selected and run intersect faces... Depending on your context you can intersect Selected faces with: Current context (if you're inside a group/component you can restrict to that context) Rest of the model (even if you're inside a context and the rest of model is out of that context); Selection (you intersect your selected objects with themselves) What you can also do is use sandbox tools (if you can't find it on toolbars you must activate it under sketchup preferences > extensions): Select the faces you want to project on the ground and hit drape tool.

Sorry to take so long to respond. I appreciate the responses from you guys. I went with DaveR's approach since it would be the easiest (IMHO) to use when a new version of SU is released.

In the end I did get in touch with the SuSolid software designer David Malnar, and he sent me a new copy of the plugin. All working now Once again, I thoroughly recommend SuSolid for anyone who's exporting STLs from Sketchup for 3d printing. Cheers, BP

I'm not sure why you have so much triangulation in that design. Surely the front and back faces are a flat plane? On the face of it, yes, it is far more work than is needed. Can you post the file; and I'll give it a shot. Do you want the in-fill to be coplanar with the front or back face...or halfway through the thickness of the design.
