    • RE: Question about efficiency in modeling

Yea I am talking about this hidden plane. To fight "overtriangulation" in the engine I thought connecting the light planes on the left + right to a single plane.

I will stop doing stuff like this and continue on my model. Once I finish it I will upload it here and you might give me tips on problems you notice, okay?

But this will not happen soon as the model is far from being finished.

    • RE: Question about efficiency in modeling

I currently work on my models with the help of your feedback.

Now I noticed something like this:

If I connect the planes on the left and right, some kind of clipping happens and looks quite ugly. Is this likely to happen in other engines, too? I dont know which engine I will use so I cannot test it... πŸ˜•

    • RE: Question about efficiency in modeling

SO I need to seperate every face which sticks to other faces by for example groups and do such lines/faces like shown in the OP to simplify faces?

Well sounds like alot of extra work. Do you happen to know if there is a plugin for that? Atleast for the seperating task?

    • RE: Question about efficiency in modeling

      Thanks for the replies,

I want to use my model in a game and I guess the model will work with triangular polygons. This is my concern.

    • Question about efficiency in modeling

Hi there, I have a question.

I currenty create a model of a complex building and I came up with a question.

Until now I deleted every face which is not visible in the model. For example in the inside of a wall. Now is this a bad thing?

Here a screenshot of what I mean:

      https://i.imgur.com/c3ihhUCg.png

The face behind the triangles is normally invisible from the outside. If I keep it like that the floor has six corners - resulting in multiple triangular polygons.

But if I draw the line behind the walls, the floor can be converted into a single polygon.

If I draw stuff like that, will I end up with a lower polygon count?

      Thanks.

    • Pasting values into the measurement box

      Hi,

I want to make a structure for which I generated values for heights in an excel table.
I try to use the measurement box on the button right by pasting values from my clipboard, but I can only type into it but not pasting it. Any Keybinding I missed?

    • RE: How do I create paralel lines trough two points?

You are right, I misunderstood your first postings. With trying I meant trying to make me understand to solve my problems. πŸ˜‰

    • RE: How do I create paralel lines trough two points?

The problem I had with circles was they are not perfect, so the number of possible tangents is limited. But the plugin you mentioned sounds like exactly what I am looking for. Thanks! The others too for trying.

    • RE: How do I create paralel lines trough two points?

      Okay I simplified the question:

Let's say I have a face which is tilted or whatever so the red/green/blue axis are not helpful.
I have two points on this face. And instead of connecting them I want to create a line that "misses" the point by a specific distance (in this example 0.25m)

(The black line has to be created, it doesnt exist yet!)

I'm not sure thos who gave first tips understood my matter, I will still look into the suggestions. Thanks!

    • RE: How do I create paralel lines trough two points?

To those who apply a parallel line to a new one: I have no line in the first place, nor can I create one because I dont have point trough which a line goes trough yet. Only two point where each line goes trough only one of these two points. The question simplified in the second posting should make it more clear, but maybe I should have said the black line is what I want to create, it doesnt exist yet!

@Wo3Dan: Sorry if this question is asked many times, couldn't imagine a fitting searchterm for it. if I align the new axes to the face, how do I rotate it to the fitting alignment? If I had a line already it would be easy but yet I'm not sure how you do it.
