xilix, 3dmax is a rendering program. Group all the first floor walls: select all the lines and planes of the walls. You might do this by taking a low-angle view and selecting all at once. Then choose the menu item edit / make group. Then you can draw on top of the walls and the wall lines won't stick to the plane you draw. But there is more to making a second story and ending up with walls free of lines inside and out, and a ceiling plane on the first level which is joined to the walls below. I was hoping someone more experienced would explain the most efficient process of getting to the second story. Peter

HI Tango356 Do you mean the lines that limit interior volumes, when watching outside... probably the use of the X-ray mode may help you, when drawing, surfaces are lighter textured, in order to see throw... If not, as far as I know, Su doesn't allow different thickness for drawing lines when you sketch. Rendering programs are aimed for such a purpose. MALAISE

Thanks guys. I know it is sort of a useless thing. I just couldn't resist making it though. Juju, I'm kind of anal about keeping my toys in good shape. I made a very small slit in the plastic so I could put the stylus back when not using it.

I was only going to but due to the lack of time I couldn't. I believe Jean made one - he was the last of the four of us to present here.

Hi Didier and shannon, i have found that the attributes reporter wont take attributes from components unless you open the component and then select then the instance. It would be good if you could select the entire model and then get a report on the attributes. Another thing that would be really good would be: name the attribute by material and a seperate field for the supplier of the material. That way when the material is exported it could be grouped into suppliers. Do you think this can be done didier?

T embed an image, you need to upload it to some external image hosting sites however, somehow like this: and the result is this: [image: Gai.jpg] (it's actually a welcomepicture BTW )

We are unlikely to see transparent images casting shadows in SU. SU's shadows are vector based, therefore they only sense actual geometry. They are completely blind to whether a pixel on an image map is transparent or not. Of course Google may be able to figure a way, but I'm not holding my breath

@daniel said: I think I would add another step - to hide the lines. Interesting... I was thinking of some way to pump them up. Maybe I need to rethink how I visualize this! Thanks for the tip, I will take a second look. I did a metal hip a while ago and I had a hell of a time modeling that. If I can post the image, you will see I never healed the hip of the metal piece. (edit: looking at the picture I guess you can't tell and really it wouldn't show in a render--but it takes time to do something poorly--bugs me)I probably used push-pull and that leaves two ridges to fix. I have tried making this shape at the bottom of the hip to Follow-me with, but drawing that has been impossible for me so far (to draw the chevron shape perpendicular to the hip). Maybe I should have used push pull to depress the main portion of the roof instead of pulling the flashing (the borders) out. [image: iBZ0_metalhip.png]

@chris fullmer said: No, its more like drew is saying. They are absolutely autocad backup files. Everytime you save your autocad file, it makes a backup file. The way to open it in autocad is to rename it, like drew said, to .dwg ending. Then autocad will recognize it. To get rid of the skp icon, right click on a .bak file and choose properties. The in the "Opens with:" area, click on the "Change" button. Now choose autocad. This will associate the file with autocad (not really useful) and hopefully change its icon off the skp icon. I don't know how to completely unassociate the file. Maybe someone else can give a description of how to do that. Good luck, Chris Okay I will try that. Thanks for the help.

I have never used it, but there is a freebie program out there called "Wink" that does things like Camtasia does. Here is the link: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ Please remember, this is only according to what I have heard. Check out that website for more information.

Yeah I've tried that as well and it pulls up a lot side geometry. I think I've cracked it now with pulling the outline through the contoured surface and intersecting. Thanks

Scott, the correct way to locate your sketchup model in GE is to use the "Google" toolbar. You must use have both google earth and sketchup open at the same time, go to GE, find a view that has the area of work, and them import that into sketchup using the toolbar. This will give you a scaled image on which you will place your model just like you would like to see it in GE (make sure its scaled properly). Make sure to toggle the terrain on so that you can locate the poles on the Z axis correctly. after you locate the features where they need to be, you can export the model to a .kmz file that you can view in google earth. Here is a video from the 3D basecamp that does a geat job of describing how this is supposed to work. http://sites.google.com/site/3dbasecamp2008/all-sessions-2008/introduction-to-geomodeling-with-sketchup-and-google-earth Its a long video, but i recommend watching the whole thing if u can.

i did the same once and after the integration of the Free Download Manager once again , it happened again, i discovered that saying no to the Free first dialog, and once looking like closed the download, it suddenly appears the option of saving normal in Windows. The question was that the Free Download saves it as php or something, the way to do is to change in the options , the name to : --whatever-- .skp Then it works ok. I use both now )

The double shelves are on the wrong side. Just kidding! Good Work. Make sure it is attached to the wall with a strap etc. I like all the stuff in it. I have those box drawers too, but not modeled. Have fun.
