I second that. Currently you cannot use emissive materials as lighting (like some other engines), just lighting effect, like a TV screen. You must light your scene with omni, spot, IES, dome. rect lights. An interior like this would need a combination of these.

@eidam655 said: Ted, are you sure that changing the Fresnel to ridiculous value is the real solution here? i'd be more concerned with the environment settings and their multipliers, and also the lighting used. larszzz, if you posted a screenshot (of the render and/or environment settings), that would be immensely helpful. Not knowing anything about a users scene, yes, changing the Fresnel IOR is what I would change initially. 3 is a good number to start with for highly reflective glass material, not ridiculous at all. You work back from there to get less reflection as needed.

Sometimes when creating new materials a disconnect can occur between V-Ray and Sketchup. Try Going to Plugins> Debugging> Force Sync All Materials

make sure you are not trying to load very old vismat files. There are earlier formats that don't work in the current version.

There are a number of ways to do this, no right or wrong way though. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Could you share the material you are trying to create, or an image of something similar to what you are trying to create?

@emn said: I guess, because the glass panels are situatied behind each other, the computer keeps reflecting the scene indefinitely. Is there a way to tell vray to reflect all the objects in the scene 1 time instead indefinitely. Forgot to say - you can set how many times the glass reflects/ refracts with the "refraction max depth" setting. In global settings, you also can set "Max transp levels" and a refraction override.

What's up with Thea users in the V-Ray forums trying to make converts of us? There's absolutely no reason VR can't make a render using RT (in 2 min with a $1,000 graphics card) of a 30MB file with proxies. Make sure you have the latest SP2. Check your back faces - its good modeling practice I would group some elements in your model - There's a lot of loose geometry, again its good modeling practice to use groups and layers. Make all landscape into proxies Render to EXR or VRIMG using Preview Use the 64 bit workflow If you have other machines on your network, setup DR

Andy- To avoid that issue, turn off your scene transitions, and set the scene duration to 0. You shouldn't have a problem after that.

I think this might be helpful for you. Take a look and see if it helps, the video explains how to manually scale the material to the size you need. http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/94877

You can use lens correction in Photoshop or this software http://www.shiftn.de/ Currently, VR4SU doesn't support 2pt camera matching exactly as you see it in SU.

i am just a beginner in terms of VRay, but there's one trick i use to align the horizon of the backgroung (see image below) it's not perfect because it only stretches the image, but sometimes it works you can stretch it in height or width... in this example i needed it to be 87% height stretch so the horizon was where i wanted [image: pz7I_1.jpg] but yeah, this is one of the things that is missing in VRay4Skp this and a vray material picker

I always suggest modeling how it would actually be constructed to get the best results. If you have a concrete floor slab ant the walls are attached to it, then model it like that. Groups are your friends and so are components. Also make sure all of your faces are oriented correctly so that you don't run into problems with back faces facing outward. Really, there's no wrong way to model in Sketchup for V-Ray, there are just more and less efficient ways to work. If you share your model here I would be happy to take a look and give you some more tips!

So there is a trick to this. A) Create a Diffused layer, place a copy of your bump map in it, set the transparency to TexAColor (make it white) B) Create another Diffused layer, make this all of your gold settings w/ bump, spec etc. C) Sketchup will see the first diffused layer (will show up as your bump map). So you can scale it as needed, but when you render it will show up as gold. Rob
