oh, a bump map... In effect I didn't even think to use it because I tought it was for soft effect... like (for example) orange peel.

Ok, I'll try. Or will use a vertical plane to end the edge.
    Thanks

I saw a tutorial once saying to do it this way, and never questioned it...

Thanks for the help I will try that, but just a note the wall finish is not reflective at all, does that make a difference?

Then I would guess it's most likely your light source. Change the shadow subdivisions from (default) 8 to 16 and see if it makes a difference. If you keep increasing the number, but it's still a problem, then try increasing your AA settings.

maybe also more than 30-40 as far as i can see the proper value changes at each renders depending of the lighting conditions.. i suspect that in your case you should raise it a lot because you have a lot of splotches.. keep testing and read soemething about the vray engine.. the link posted by valero is a very good start, look further in that site, it refers to vray for 3dsmax but it works quite the same in vray for sketchup..

.mtl will not work with this V-Ray. That's a Max format, which I am sure this model was meant for. Now with that said, I have to say that this is the limitation you will hit every time with SketchUp. It just cant handle geometry like this. Try to import the same file in Max and see how it handles. It's just night and day. SketchUp was never meant to be this kind of program. Some rendering engines allow for proxies which puts a low poly placeholder in SketchUp and then renders out the hi-poly version. V-Ray currently does not have this capability but it is in the works for their next release.

I think using layer is a buggy with Vray because when i deleted all the layer I have, I can now render my model. Layer has another issue with scenes and Vray. If i turned off a layer on another scene then on the product image the supposed to be turned on layer disappear. I hope chaos group now working on this bugs, and I think what causes much delayed on their product update is because theyre waiting for another sketchup product which fixes especially in counting polygon.

First off, welcome, if you truly want to learn how to make renderings like this then you will need 2 things.

    Time Patience

Here is a starting point to answer your questions specifically.

The leaves and plants are no way SketchUp. These are most likely hi poly models purchased on the web and rendered in Max. The wood floor is probably something where the boards were modeling in 3D and a hi res texture was used to map the wood texture. The concrete looks like an Arrowway texture.

    http://www.arroway-textures.com/

Now these answers really only tell about less than 1/2% of the information you need to make images like this. The first image you posted probably was modeled in 3D Studio Max or SketchUp possibly and then imported in Max, materials and textures were probably custom from Photoshop and then VRay materials made one by one, then the lighting and rendering probably took 1/2 day to setup. Then I am sure there was a lot of post process in Photoshop.

I started as an architecture student and when I graduated I decided to focus solely on viz. I have been using VRay for 5 years and I am still learning. If this is truly what you want to do, then you need to make that choice now and start the focus. I think there are few licensed architects practicing architecture and making renderings like this. I may be wrong but I just think as much time needs to go into learning all the tools and concepts to make a rendering as you would need to invest in becoming a licensed architect and there are only so many hours in the day.

There are plenty of resources online to learn VRay and post work. Evermotion has a great 2-part video series on SketchUp and VRay. I would start there.

Thank you, helped me a lot. First you need to see how it's done only then you can start learning the right way.

    Have a nice day!

Yes, I'm trying to render a scene with an HDRI background and I want the objects to cast shadows. How do I get that to work?

    Hi Tommaso and welcome. πŸ˜„
Please don't post external links to your images. I'm not on Facebook for example so I can't see them. Just use the "upload attachment feature" you'll find at the bottom of the post panel.
You can upload your work in the gallery section of the forum. You can choose the WIP subforum for your work in progress jobs.

Thanks, I just added some pics in the Gallery section so that you can see them I hope.

Thanks again for your support and lol fot this forum!!

If you do a search in these forums, you will see the the Arrowway maps question has been discussed. Especially pertaining to the reflection / glossiness maps. Those freebies though are insanely low res and I wouldn't expect amazing results from them. I think you can buy some of the maps individually. The pay ones are very hi res and work well with VRay. You may have to downsize them though because they may be too large for SketchUp to handle. I think some of them get as large as like 12,000 pixels wide or something insane like that.

One more note. If you search for Jason Maranto, he is a Sketchucation user that has made SKM libraries of all of the Arroway free files. The libraries he made link direct to Maxwell, but you can still use the SKM libraries without Maxwell and the hi-res versions.

    Thanks!

One thing i have been missing withe my version of vray was the materials that are supposed to ship with it... I did not realize that and have been trying to create or find materials elsewhere or create them from scratch, which has been time consuming. I realized that they had sent me an link to download the library when i first signed up but when I had clicked on it I got a forbidden error 404 so i did not download it at that time then I forgot all about it. I have sent a request to Vray for assistance downloading the vray library. I am assuming it is a pretty good place to start with some nice materials as well and all i have to do in import them!

First thing I would check is textures. Make sure you don't have any funky image files from any warehouse objects for example. I've sometimes run into images that are cmyk jpeg files instead of RGB for example. Have you tried doing a render with global material override. That way you can check if any of the materials are causing problems. (You can override some materials and have those render, that way you can check specific materials.)

There's any other number of problems that can crop up. Another trouble-shooting option is to load default options settings to make sure something in your options isn't messed up. If you are using DR, there are all kinds of instability there that could be an issue.

Any more specifics you can share on your settings?

One last thing: do you have more than one window of SU open when you are rendering? That can cause all kinds of issues too. I never have two windows of SU open with vray running.
