Have you tried applying the material to negative [back] faces too?

It helps : When loading heavy bitmaps at the beginning of the rendering. When you run out of memory, and vray has to swap a lot on the hard drive. (It's easy to see, your CPU is not at 100% in that case. It's limited by the HDD)

If you save as a PNG, you wont have to apply the alpha in PS. Make sure your background matches the correct lighting conditions of your render or it will look very fake. ie - an image where the sun is clearly on the left but your shadows are opposite.

@cadfather said: it looks so weird that it doesn't seem a vray problem (at any rate i never experienced anything this bad, and when it fails, a restart or importing the model into a new empty file does the job). Hi CadFather You are right,it wasn´t a Vray problem ...In fact after my post I start a new sketchup file within the same open session, rendered it with the existing vray settings and magic..it works like a charm. Conclusion - It was a Sketchup problem Then I visit the book http://www.aidanchopra.com/book-info and made a complete new set-up of shadows and geo-positioning of model and after a few tweaks the model is back rendering without problems - see sample. Thanks for your input [image: CC7u_Stairs-Shadowsandwall-paintings.jpg]

The export button is for exporting the scene to Maxwell Render. If you only have the Sketchup version, there is no Maxwell Render Standalone. You have to use the "Save image" button in the FiRE window.

Tick the "Use color texture as transparency" in the Diffuse layer of the material. [image: sMzr_UNTHICK.png]

I use Maxwell since the first alpha/beta releases 8 years ago. Yes, sure you can open the MXI file rendered on the network on your laptop after the render has been completed and the adjust the multilight settings. There is no difference to a MXI generated on your laptop. If you want to see it while it is rendering you can either use the preview function of the manager or simply open the image file (or MXI) stored in the maxwell temp directory of the node.

Ahhhh, I'm getting closer to understanding all of this technical stuff. My current license allows me to apply the license to a laptop and one workstation; so I could use my laptop as the 'manager' and the workstation as the rendernode ('slave'). Hmmmmm.....the cogs are turning. I've only recently realised just how pathetic an i3 is for rendering!! Gimme a break; I'm still learning!!

Hi Lila, One quick answer for you: in render "A" You are using "material override", that is why your glass material is not showing. Go to your glass in the vray material editor, and uncheck the option "Can be Overridden" A more complicated answer: You'll probably want to do some testing with a smaller file sized model, or you will be very frustrated waiting for your 65MB file to render. Since you have an interior scene, I would try to put in lighting like you have indicated in the model. Make a simple model of a similar shape, and start adding in vray lights. It takes a while to learn all the tricks of vray, so the best is to take one concept at a time. If it makes you feel better, my first renders with vray looked just like yours, but it didn't stay that way for long. Also, I see that you've started making changes to the camera settings, that is important to know, and I would keep adjusting the camera as you make changes to your GI and your artificial lighting so you get proper exposure of your scene. Lastly, one hint: If you want daylighting in your space, I would use a high GI multiplier without sunlight. In your "Environment" options, go the the GI (skylight) option, and click on the texture (The "M" button) and change from TexSky to "none" Then, after you change the texture, change the value in GI from 1 to something like 10. This will bring in much more light to your scene from your exterior openings. Good luck Andy

You can also get it by clicking on EDIT menu and then GROUP, then Vray for Sketchup, and then edit light.
